It's not really news, but what useful purpose does the USPS serve?

If I may ...
For your consideration ...

I wonder where all the Post Roads are that Congress was/is supposed to have established? Per the Constitution? I sure haven't seen any of them in my lifetime.

The big problem with USPS is that it's government, and therefore a bureaucratic nightmare run by idiots and crooks. A decent businessperson could go in, turn it around, and make it profitable.

I've lost count of how many times I've heard some tard go, "Oh, you can't run the government like a business! 🤪 "

Well....yeah, you can. And you should.

Also I'm so sick of paid protesters I could puke.

I know one damn thing - if the USPS was run like a business, (some) people that work in the local post offices like the one in Prince Frederick wouldn't be so flucking rude! There are many, many wonderful USPS employees!!! Prince Frederick must be the place they send all the bad ones.

That's actually what Louis DeJoy was appointed to do and it's been a complete failure.

I guess he wasn't a decent business person?

the poor dad
a couple of things -

I was sorting thru my mail while watching this video and low and behold, I open up an envelope from JD Power that has $1 in it - I love the USPS!

While away on vacation this month, my daughter ruined all good relations I had formed over the last 5 years with our local postmaster. She returned 5 Amazon packages (small enough to fit in our PO Box) addressed to our store's physical address rather than our PO Box. Since we don't have a mailbox at our business, they won't put mail in our PO Box if it only has our physical address, though she knows who we are! It's got to cost them more money & time to send these packages back rather than just bend down and put them in our PO Box. Now I've got to spend the next 5 years rebuilding that relationship with my postmaster. My daughter hates USPS!

Be careful what you wish for when it comes to abolishing the USPS - they are now contracting with Amazon/UPS/FedEx to deliver your internet packages that last mile. If they don't do it at a loss, then Amazon/UPS/FedEx will charge you more for delivery. People have horror stories about these delivery companies just like they do USPS.

I do have a love/hate relationship with the USPS. My mother was a USPS employee for 25 years. She was one that did everything in her power to get your mail to you, regardless of how it was addressed. She was always friendly to her customers, regardless of the pressure her bosses were putting on her to get the mail out. Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where Newman says the mail never stops, the pressure is always on. I still buy stamps by the coil to send out cards/statements/bills/etc. 50-75% of the mail I receive is NOT junk mail but important stuff. My business relies on the mail to get our sale flyers out each month to our customers. A good part of our customer base still shops from these sale flyers in the mail. There is only about 2 times a month where there is not mail in my home mailbox, and then it makes me wonder it someone stole my mail or did the mailman decide not to work that day.

So yeah, some days I love USPS and other days I hate USPS. Put me in the old fogey category that says we need to keep USPS, but with some changes of course to make them friendlier and more efficient. If MVA can do it, so can USPS. (My last couple visits to MVA in Leonardtown have been pleasant.)

It would appear not.
To say "business person" is too one dimensional, finding the right fit is essential.

Eddie Lampert was a fantastic CEO for AutoZone and it was thought he couldn't miss. Then he took over Sears Holding company and we all know what happened to Sears and KMart.
