Its not the dog - its the owner

I just got in from taking my little pup out for her last walk. Since it was raining, I wanted to take the short route. Unfortunately, we could not.

My neighbor has this dog. It could be a nice dog. It could be a great dog. Unfortunately he has never trained his dog. He never contains his dog. The dog will charge anyone walking past its home. It has attacked people. It has attacked other dogs. It's not playing. Authorities were contacted in the past - mainly because there were three dogs like this on the street. The other two neighbors built fences and that's where their poor pups stay - never walked, occasionally allowed in the house.

Tonight the dog was there at the edge of her garage. Owner is in bed and left the garage door open so the dog could get in out of the rain. We were about 50 yards from her when she charged. I redirected us and told her NO! GO HOME! Luckily she stopped for a minute but then trailed us for several houses before returning home.

I feel bad for this dog. She's never been taught anything and one day she'll hurt someone because she's protecting her property (which is the whole street in her head) and she'll end up destroyed. All because her owner should not be an owner. :ohwell:

report the owner

The owner should be reported to animal control. They will be warned and then fined if the dog is not kept under control. I wonder why some people even have pets!

He didn't heed the warning. Animal control won't do anything bur warn until the dog tears someone up.

That is not what they told us when we had problems with a neighbor. They get a warning, or two, I don't quite recall. Then they get a fine after the next report. Then, if a report comes in again, the animal is taken away from them. This is all for not having the animal leashed or under some control on their property. I would give them another call about this.

4 separate visits - no resolution. We let the State Trooper do the call ins. Everyone figures there will be less retribution that way. Although they don't give the name of the person that complains, they certainly give enough information to narrow it down. We have 5 police officers on the street. He suspects every one of them. The thing he needs to realize is if his dog attacks one of their dogs, they will not hesitate to shoot the attacking dog. Maybe he's just waiting for that to happen. I don't think he cares that much.

I'm sorry but this does not make sense! There are laws about keeping animals. You can not let them run loose. Are you sure that you are talking to Animal Control?

Why dont you call Animal Control?
Maybe this will help:

THEY'VE BEEN CALLED FOUR TIMES. THEY'VE BEEN THERE FOUR TIMES. :spank: The owner says he'll handle it, locks the dog in the garage for 2 days, then out she comes.
Did I mention this owner is related to some high mucky mucks? Maybe there is outside influence.
Last night the dog tore the pants of a neighbor who was walking down the street. Owner was having a gathering. Never noticed the dog doing it. Apologized to the guy but told him "its better if you walk on the opposite side of the street." The neighbor was three houses away when the dog went after him. Neighbor called animal control last night, but they won't come until today sometime.

The more complaints animal control has the more likely they are to do something about it. Hopefully something will be done about the situation today. If this happened down south, that dog would have been shot a long time ago.
