Is there a way to convert iTune music into MP3s?

I encountered this a few weeks ago and found a tedious way of doing it. We burned the playist to a CD (which converts it to an MP3) then we burned it back on to the computer (using Windows Media Player - set to burn to MP3 format, not WMA). If it's a CD you'd like to share or listen to in the vehicle then it works out a bit better.

HOPE that helps.

I have a bunch of Johhny Cash I want to put on one CD. It's about 9 CD's in total, should be able to fit them all on one as MP3.

I don't have Itunes anymore. Deleted it off my work computer.

I thought we were talking about going from an iTune to an MP3?

Heck if I know...
iTunes have to come from somewhere  I'd assume that iTunes (the program) can rip CDs to MP3 format. I thought the usual problem was that people were downloading music from iTunes (the service) which only comes in iTunes (the file format) to put onto iPods (the music player) so that it can dock to your iCarta (the toilet paper holder) while you iPoop (the sh!t).

Does iTunes only rip CDs into it's iTunes format or can it rip to MP3 as well? I tried iTunes once. After it tried to take over half of my computer, I deleted it...and then it tried to come back. It was like a virus and it's performance sucked too...kinda like Windows Media Player, but more invasive. I'll never try it again.

BTW, I use Winamp. It's simple and it works.

RealPlayer is great.

WMP11 sucks. :smack:

Itunes isn't worth the memory it uses.

I always hated RealPlayer too

They all try to pack to much crap into the programs. Make it simple and small. IT'S JUST A MUSIC PLAYER!

...sounds like a good name for a program...IJAMP...it's just a music player!

I've purchased a few albums through iTunes (the band Nothingface has hard to find CD's and they're usually $17 vs Apple's $10) and burned them to a CD to put in my car. It converts them to MP3 format.

Isn't iTunes the only thing you can put on an IPOD or is that wrong? One kiddo is getting an Ipod and the other two are getting MP3 players. They listen to the same music, will I have to buy it twice?

Pretty sure your right Itunes is the only one that can be used on an ipod, but I am pretty sure you can also use Itunes for other mp3 players.

You have that backwards. iPods can play other formats, but other players can't play music purchased from the iTunes store.

Thats why I miss windows 3.1 It had a very simple music player. Pause, stop, next song, previous song, and volume control.

Realplayer sucks just as much as the rest of them. They all use too much memory for what you want (to play a song!)

Realplayer and Quicktime are a PITA to get off of the computer and no matter how many times you set it to not start with start-up, they do anyways.

Apple Unveils Higher Quality DRM-Free Music on the iTunes Store

Apple® today announced that EMI Music’s entire digital catalog of music will be available for purchase DRM-free (without digital rights management) from the iTunes® Store (Apple - iPod + iTunes) worldwide in May. DRM-free tracks from EMI will be offered at higher quality 256 kbps AAC encoding, resulting in audio quality indistinguishable from the original recording, for just $1.29 per song. In addition, iTunes customers will be able to easily upgrade their entire library of all previously purchased EMI content to the higher quality DRM-free versions for just 30 cents a song. iTunes will continue to offer its entire catalog, currently over five million songs, in the same versions as today—128 kbps AAC encoding with DRM—at the same price of 99 cents per song, alongside DRM-free higher quality versions when available.

IMHO iTunes is an awesome tool for digitizing and managing your multimedia library. The only downside, as you noted, is that they encode the songs you buy from their store to try and keep them from being pirated/stolen. Not really a problem other than I believe you are only permitted to burn the songs to CD x numbers of times.

Most people I know burn the songs to CD and then reimport them.

Personally, I've switched to buying most digital tunes from the Amazon.com MP3 downloads store. They're 89-cents/song, are pure unprotected MP3 files, and they import right into itunes.
