OK, let me start off saying I don't wear gloves for anything - gardening, dishwashing, motorcycle riding - just can't get good enough a feel for it with gloves on.

So, lots of tomatoes from the garden, time to make salsa!

Diced about 70 jalepenos for the salsa, which I do every summer with little ill effects. But this year, about an hour after I'm done, my hands are ON FIRE!!!

Goggled jalepeno skin burns (with my fingers on fire!) - and came up with some of the most hilarious forum entries I've read in a long time!

Jalapeno Pepper Burn Treatment

I took a number of their suggestions and made my own fix - worked like a charm!

GoJo hand cleaner - rinse - liquid Dawn - rinse. Repeat three times.
Aloe Vera sunburn gel - allow to dry. Repeat twice.

:yahoo:

Glad I decided to try this before I got to the suggestion to pee on my hands - plenty of people swore that worked for them (other than the guy that set his penis on jalapeno fire!:killingme).

Oh yeah, got 10 half-pints of salsa canned up for the winter:drool:

I think the more times you cut Jalapenos with bare hands the less they seem to burn.I think your skin gets resistant to Jalapeno burn.
The first time my hands were burning for hours. Now it does not bother me.

Your Salsa sounds lovely mmmmmmm.
However best not to eat too many as you can still get Jalapeno burn somewhere else.Like the time I eat 16 whole ones in one day....

You're supposed to, the seeds are the good part.

I hope my gastro doc doesn't see this.

Yes they can be addictive. Sometimes my mouth waters when I am selecting them at the supermarket- what am I like? Worse than a kid in a candy store:lmao:
I promise not to tell your gastro doc

I've gotten it in my eyes before and it burned like hell.

:poorbaby: Well maybe I have bionic eyes or something:lmao: .Gee I better be careful what I type here or some mad scientist might capture me to experiment on me as to why my eyes do not sting and use it for bio warfare.

That is strange as I got a good squirt in my eyes.

Saying that when I chop onions I can cry like crazy:lmao:

Reminds me of the time a friend was making Jerk chicken and he was cutting habenero (sp?) peppers and didn't wash his hands after. He went to the bathroom and grabbed his:gossip: to pee and he started screaming. He couldn't get his :gossip: to stop burning:lmao:
