Son's toyota blew an engine. Thinking about getting a Jasper engine installed. 3 year 100,000 mile warranty on the engine. Anyone here ever had one put in. Any plus or minus comments if you did.

I had one put in my toyota and was great until it was wrecked, I had maybe 10-12,000 put on it. The engine is still in good shape but the car isn't drivable anymore.

My husband brought a $3000 motor from Jasper and within an year, it blew. He called, and called over and over again complaining about the oil pressure and he is a mechanic, so he would know. They never noted the account with any problems about the oil pressure.

After a teardown, he discovers that they never replaced the oil pump when the built the motor to be sold, so needless to say we were out $3K and now are looking for a new truck.

DONT BUY FROM JASPER.

Get a Spartan engine from Advanced, the are built by ATK and they specialized in Japanese engines for years. Any reman engine can fail and no remanufacturer builds a Toyota to the same spec as the original, specifically regarding oil clearances for main and rod bearings. PM for additional more specific detail.

Thanks for the replies guys and gals. Big Toyota family here between wife and i we have owned 7 since 1986. I know in the used car market it is buyer beware. I bought a 1986 Toyota 4WD pickup truck and kept it for almost 19 years and put 320,000 miles on it and when i got rid of it engine purred like a kitten but body and frame were rusting away. Was really shocked buying son's car used and obviously not knowing how the previous owneers did or did not take care of it. Still not sure what to do, the Jasper solution still sounds better than the Dealers solution.

To elaborate on above comment dealer wanted to put in a short block and use all the used parts price on Jasper is all inclusive belts, hoses, water pump, and wires. for about $450.00 more, than the dealers quote the difference is as follows. Dealers warranty 12 months, or 12 thousand miles. Jaspers warranty from a reputable shop 36 months, 100,000 miles. Not even sure if a car with a blown engine has any trade in value at all.

In My Opinion
I got over 100k on a Jasper engine in an old Blazer.
It was a 350cid and never gave me any problems.

Had the same luck with my Ford Ranger. Over 350000 mi on it. Engine still running, but body rusted away. Bought my first Toyota. Tacoma 4 door. Hope I have as much luck with this as I did with my Ranger.

If it was within a year and i'm sure less than 100k it would still be their problem whether they replaced the pump or not...
.
Sounds like there is more to this story..

I have delt with jasper for 20+ years and this cenerio is very un-like them..
Even if it is out of warranty they make some attempt to help the customer...
