Jealous vs. Hogan in the fall....

Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1. I hear about Hogan’s approval numbers, yet every Democrat I speak to says they are not voting for him. Some of them like the guy but agree that we need to vote the Democratic ticket now more than ever.

Now I see quite the opposite. Almost every democrat I know has said they will vote for him. Most of them voted for Hillary, hate Trump, but believe that Hogan was at best a moderate who eased up O'Malley's tax grab. And most of them voted for O'Malley not once, but twice because they did not like Ehrlich. It's the same dynamic that Reagan used when he had the support of the "Reagan democrats" who crossed over twice to vote for him. If there was an O'Malley type of candidate with name recognition it might be different, but Jealous has less name recognition than Anthony Brown and will get no support west of Baltimore county or East of the bay. Even the democratic establishment is not enthusiastic about him. Comptroller Franchot has said he will not endorse a candidate, and Montgomery County executive Ike Leggit has been non committal so far. They realize that after Hogan the republicans probably have nobody on their bench to win again and that Jealous far left platform might damage them more going forward. The only real reason for democrats to feel threatened by a Hogan 2nd term is the census will give him control of re-drawing the districts and can change the gerrymandering bias that exists. Even that is not that frightening as the GA can simply support the bill Hogan supported taking that control away from him and giving it to an independent commission. Bottom line is that every poll has Hogan's favorability rating near 70% and his unfavorability at less than 30%. They all have him double digits ahead of Jealous. Unless he gets caught up in some unknown scandal, or makes a horrible campaign mistake, it's going to be very hard for Jealous to beat him.

I was nodding my head (in agreement; not as in sleepy ) the whole time I was reading your post. You should post more often.

Thank you. I appreciate your comment. I probably will post more often as time goes on. I am a convert from the now defunct Baltimore Sun forum. Just easing my way in.

Yeah, this forum can be tricky; like walking on hot coals really fast! But, what I do know is Americans do not want Socialism, even if some think they do. They would not like it all, and should be careful what they wish for; Trump preempted that, for now. The Socialism roots are already in the ground, and the land needs to be cleared. That is a pioneer reference on my part; and we need the American spirit; probably more now, than ever.

Side note. I, always, am sad that Native Americans suffered because of colonization, but it would have happened no matter what. My great great great grandmother was Shawnee. Not that it is relevant to the discussion, but I am proud of that, and like to speak of her and she is part of heritage; she married one of my ancestors in 1840. My point in posting about Native Americans is that one side will lose; like always.
But, We cannot lose to Socialism, or America is over as We know Her. Forever. Period.

Socialism has plagued US since FDR, (and can’t forget Wilson) and carried on by LBJ, WJC, Barry Soetoro Barack Obama (or what ever his name is), and Hillary thought she would be the next power hungry elitist Socialist to carry on. The glass ceiling is BS, and she was shattered in the election. I have never seen a POTUS loser carry on with the crying that she does. It is, obvious, to me what is going on. I am 63 years old, and not stupid. The trying to impeach Trump thing is way out of control. That should tell y’all something. God bless the USA.

And, one more thing. It is disgusting to watch the likes of Pelosi, Clintons, Obamas, Maxine, Cortez, etal to bitch about taxes, immigrants, trade, Trump’s policies, the wall, gun control and on and on. They do this because they are elitists living in ivory towers with security guards, and think they will never be touched by their policies/mandates. If ever some Antifa, Black Panther, illegal immigrant, etal were to confront me, irl. After it is over, I will say welcome to America. I would love it to be Joe and Mika Hypocrite, first.

You are new, so didn’t know we moved from Calvert to Montgomery County a year and a half ago to be with dot and grandtots. I don’t like it here, but you gotta to do what you gotta do. Otherwise, we would still be on the water in Calvert, or somewhere less politically out of control, and way more serene.

A new Gonzalez poll has Hogan up by 16 points. He is now over 50% support. The only places Jealous wins are Montgomery county, PG county and Baltimore city. Even in the city Hogan is competitive, down only by 6 points. Brown won the city 75-22 in 2014. Hogan only 6 points down with 38% of the vote is more competitive than any republican in decades. In PG county Hogan lost 84-14 in 2014. He is only losing 46-33 in this poll. In the so called battleground of Baltimore county Hogan is up 63-27. West of BC and on the Eastern Shore/So Md Hogan exceeds 70% support. Perhaps the worst news for Jealous in this poll is that there seems to be very little support for the idea of supporting him as a protest vote against Trump. Jealous got little to no bump from his primary victory and he has considerably less money than the Hogan campaign. Certainly can't count any republican as a lock in Maryland, but right now it is hard to see Jealous even making this race close.

Have been seeing that trend, too. Go, Hogan!

Those “Democrats “ endorsing Hogie can kiss their political careers goodbye. Ben Jealous provides an ideal litmus test whether Democrats truly embrace progressive values. If they don’t, then move the heck over.

:killingme:killingme Ben Jealous is a walking talking joke. And even Dems recognize that. But not you, apparently..

Yeah, litmus test? And by truly progreessive, you really mean free everything for everyone with no consideration as to where the hell that money might comes from. So, since we already have had that vote once, I'm not sure why you think the results will be different a second time. Maybe a Dem who wasn't intent on setting everything on fire to set himself up for national office might have a better chance, but Jealous isnt that guy. He's Owe'Spendy Part Deux, wanting to ram through a bunch of unsustainable but cool sounding projects so he can set himself for a 2020 or 2024 run for the White House. And again, Maryland has already demonstrated that they are tired of being used as a springboard.

I would love to be a fly of the Beer Brothers' wall over the next couple months. They are oldtime MD politicians. They gotta figure there's no way they can control Jealous. And if they publicly challenge his more hair brained ideas, let the charges of racism begin.

Good times... good times.

Also in the victim news, calling a black person’s politics “socialism” is an attempt to denigrate said persons views. That is a paraphrase from Ben Jealous.

The Beer Brothers...LOL! Good one. I rank Mike Miller right up there with the most notorious mafiosi that ever plagued any state. That POS needs to be gone.

Well: actually it is a time to find out if there are enough blacks and white guilt Marylanders to elect a black man.
He is running on his race and entitlements someone will have to pay for.

Kiss their careers goodbye? Seriously. I'll check back with you in a few years. Even the heavy hitters in Maryland's democratic party are remaining neutral or laying low. Peter Franchot, who will probably end up governor after the next 4 years of Hogan, has said he will not endorse either. Mike Bush and Mike Miller have had little to say about Jealous. They realize he may hurt the Maryland democratic party worse then a second Hogan term. Jim Brochin has endorsed Hogan. The progressive wave of the democratic party is doing to it what the tea party has done to the republican party. It is beginning to splinter the democrats and peel off the moderate, sensible wing of the party the same way the radicals on the tea party split the republicans. Jealous can't pay for his programs without significantly hiking taxes. The moderate democrats who crossed over for Hogan, and years ago for Ehrlich, aren't going to support him. The poll numbers show he has no support outside of three counties, and only luke warm support in two of those three. Jealous almost needs a miracle to win, even in one of the most democratic states in the country.
