John 9:35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
36 “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.
37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.
38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.
39 Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.
40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”
41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.
John is still writing about the incident with the blind man. This man had been blind since birth, but he had the good fortune to run into Jesus. Jesus made a smear out of spittle and mud, and had the man wash in some water nearby. The healing worked and the man could see for the first time in his life. There was quite a discussion about how sin caused [or didn't cause] his blindness. The Pharisees had their noses in everything Jesus was doing, because they went out trying to find something, anything, they could charge Him with [Jealous]. Remember, the man was blind before Jesus sent him to the well to wash the spit poultice off his eyes. The guy never actually saw Jesus, so he couldn't point him out. He did however hear Jesus talking and he would know that voice, if he ever heard it again! Jesus healed the blind man on the Sabbath, and they were so upset by it, they threw the blind man out of the Temple. These verses are about what transpired between the newly seeing man and Jesus.

Jesus was turning everything upside down. The Pharisees used to be the ones in charge of faith. The Pharisees were supposed to be the ones who represented God. The Pharisees were like the priests, preachers, deacons, and elders in churches today, only they had a ton more power than we allow the priests, preachers, deacons, and elders in the churches today. Jesus came to move the power away from the priests, preachers, deacons, elders, Pharisees, Sadducees, and Teachers of the Law. Jesus moved the responsibility from church hierarchy to the individual.

Check out Verse 39. Jesus was talking about spiritual blindness and of course those narrow minded Pharisees could not allow anything spiritual, unless they controlled it. They were responsible for the Temple and the Sacrifices. They had been responsible since the days of Moses. They could not and would not allow this man from Nazareth to upset the apple cart they thought God assigned to them.

Problem is, they upset the apple cart a long time before Jesus came along, but they were too spiritually blind to notice it. They had been doing the "push, push" ritual for so long, they didn't know they were pushing a cart on its side. Jesus came along to right the apple cart. They were not about to let this man from Nazareth even touch their apple cart. They "knew" they were right. They couldn't see their problem. Jesus could see it, and He would be happy to hold the flashlight while they fixed it.

Those "know it all" Pharisees could not see.

Jesus came to right the apple cart.
