Mark 14:53 They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together. 54 Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.
55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. 56 Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.
57 Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another, not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even then their testimony did not agree.
60 Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.
Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?
62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.
63 The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64 “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”
They all condemned him as worthy of death. 65 Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.
You have the right to remain silent. If you give up that right, anything you say will be used against you. They lied. He told the truth. They couldn't handle the truth, so they sentenced Him to the Cross.

When I was a little girl, I had a friend who played the piano in church. Her name was Becky too! Yep, she was a few years older than me.... but we were friends. Anyway, her mom and dad were buying her a new piano, and they gave the used one to me. My dad borrowed a truck, they loaded it on, strapped it down and when they went around the first big curve, the piano bit the dust. All that was left was skeleton and keys. I took the keys and lined them up on the picnic table and pretended that was my new piano and belted out every song I could remember and a few I made up. I had a ball with what was left of my piano.

I was in the girl scouts. We met at one of my other friends' houses. When I told them about my piano and playing the keys on the edge of the picnic table, they burst out laughing. I remember one of them saying "here, play on this" as they pointed to an end table. They just didn't get it. I was telling them a true happening. They were laughing at my imagination. To this day I am wounded by that. AND I never did learn to play the piano.

Jesus told them the truth. They couldn't handle it. They didn't "hear" what He was saying. They were only interested in murdering Him. They wanted Him on that Cross so bad they could taste it! So Jesus could have thanked them for helping Him get to the end of His Mission. He had to get on that Cross and die. He had to be laid in a tomb. He had to beat death.... and they just helped Him get one step closer.

Sure, they were mean. Sure, they were ignorant. Sure, they were human. Jesus could have called down Legions to "testify" on His behalf, but He had to get on the Cross. So, He confused them so they would do what He needed them to do.

Jesus could have remained silent.
