Hebrews 7:11 If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood—and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood—why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? 12 For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also. 13 He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. 15 And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is declared:
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.”
in the order of Melchizedek.”
18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
20 And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, 21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him:
“The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
‘You are a priest forever.’”
and will not change his mind:
‘You are a priest forever.’”
22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.
23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
26 Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.
This is where I get the commentary.Another tribe, from which no man has officiated at the altar: Under the Law of Moses, God strictly commanded that only those from the family of Aaron could serve at the altar in sacrifice.
He of whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe: Jesus is obviously not from the family of Aaron or even the tribe of Levi. The tribe of Judah (the tribe of Jesus’ lineage) had nothing to do with Aaron’s priesthood, the priesthood associated with the Law of Moses. Therefore according to the priesthood of Aaron and the Law of Moses, Jesus could never be a priest. If He is our High Priest, it must be under another principle.
On the other hand: Since now, in Jesus, we have a better hope, through which we draw near to God, we are wrong to go back to building our Christian walk on the law. Therefore the law is “annulled” or set aside in the sense that it no longer is the dominating principle of our life, especially of our relationship with God.
They have become priests without an oath: The high priest of the order of Aaron was appointed by heredity, not by personal character or an oath of God. Not so with Jesus and the priestly order of Melchizedek. God even sealed His choice by an oath.
Also there were many priests: The priesthood under the Law of Moses constantly changed, and so was better or worse through the years depending on the character of the priest. In contrast, Jesus has an unchangeable priesthood. Jesus will never die and has a permanent priesthood. We don’t need to worry about a “bad priest” replacing Him.
Think back... Do you know someone who is perfect for the profession they chose? I knew a little girl who never liked school. She didn't do homework. When she was in the band... she wouldn't bring her instrument home... when she wanted to be a cheerleader... she didn't practice the cheers.... she just would not stick to anything. Then they offered her GNA training. And a light came on... and she did her homework... and she enjoyed going to school.... and now she's studying to be a nurse. I can tell you from experience... she has such a tender but deliberate touch... she was just meant to be in healthcare. I hope she keeps at it. "She is perfect for the profession"!!!!Jesus was even better at His profession. Jesus taught at the Temple.... and He was NOT A LEVITE.... so, He should have been bringing an ox to be sacrificed for His sins.... not teaching the priests.
Jesus was perfect at everything. He did the death and dying thing... and even conquered that. Jesus had work to do after death... He had to meet the Disciples on the shore and cook them a fish dinner. So Jesus just walked right past the "dying for your sins" part. Jesus didn't have any sins to die for so He just came right back to life. No need to stand in a line that doesn't apply to your case.
So Jesus was perfect at life. It's a good thing too... because Jesus is going to live forever. No one will ever have to replace Him. We don't have to worry about changing agendas.
Jesus was not a Levite... born to take care of the Temple. Jesus was from the tribe of Judah. Jesus was the game changer.
Jesus only had Two Commandments. Love God with all your heart, mind, and soul. Love Others as you would have them love you.
Jesus didn't belong to the Temple.
The Temple belonged to Jesus.
Jesus didn't require religion.
