Jesus just didn't respect them!

Mark 3:1 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.
I think I need to show who was in the synagogue that day. There was, of course, Jesus and the man with the shriveled hand. The Pharisees were there.... they are the ones who just could not stand Jesus because He refused to take their laws seriously. He kept thumbing His nose at centuries of laws based on the original Ten Commandments that were handed down to THEM.

Jesus just didn't respect the Sabbath! Jesus just didn't respect them!

Now look at verse 6.... there's someone else in the synagogue that day. The Herodians were there.

According to "Got Questions", the Herodians were a political group that supported King Herod. Herodians were kind of like Republicans or Democrats of the day. Of course, they were powerful. They liked being the rich guy in the pew that everyone respects and even fears.

Don't get me wrong, Herod was not there. He wouldn't have gone to synagogue.... Herod was not a Jew. He was a king.... appointed by Rome.

Herod, of course, is none other than the Herod who had John the Baptist beheaded because his stepdaughter [niece] teased him into promising her "anything". John the Baptist had no problem calling her and her mother sluts. John the Baptist had no problem telling Herod to Repent. John the Baptist scared Herod. Herod thought Jesus was John the Baptist reincarnated.... like Elijah. The Herodians would have been perfectly happy getting rid of Jesus.

Now the Pharisees, the power in the synagogue, and the Herodians, the power in politics, were joining forces to make sure Jesus pays for showing them all up!

Jesus just didn't respect them!
