Jesus Pizza, as the students call it, is warm. It's good. It's free. And it's available to T.C. students for lunch every Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria. Some weeks, as many as 150 or more students trek the half-mile down King Street from the school to lounge on old couches, thumb through Bibles or play pool while waiting for free slices and sodas in the church basement. The only cost is that they have to listen to a prayer and a short sermon before digging in.

Its all fun and games until a group of kids gets kidnapped on their 1/2 mile trek to the church.

I know nothing
so do they get the pizza during communion?

This is my body..... (priest hold up food)

"huh?, kind of looks like a slice pizza to me"

This is my blood.... (priest holds up can of pepsi)

Maybe they'll start with the "...half-Jewish..dad's an atheist...Hindu,......agnostic...." who are too good to listen to the prayers as they inhale the pizza in the parking lot.

T.C. Williams is an amazing High School! After all, the true story "Remember the Titans" happened there! TC is touted as the most diverses high school in America boasting they represent 46 Nations in their student body. What a change from the old days.

I say, let em have Pizza.

And Yes... I am aware that this is a covert operation designed to convert the Muslim student body. :lmao:

I see no problem with that, since the teens can come and go of their own free will. I would have a problem if, say, a church member walked up to young kids at playgrounds and bribed them with candy to listen to sermons. My interest in the "Jesus Pizza" is academic - I'm amazed by the intensity of the desire by some believers to win converts.

If you 100% believed that if you didn't help people find God, they would be damned to an eternity in hell, wouldn't you? or would you be the type to watch a man lay dying on the side of the road and not provide aid?

You have to look at it from their point of view.

But they also need to look at it from my point of view. My personal boundaries are more important than anything they want from me or believe about me. Even though their intentions are good, it feels like they are trying to emotionally manipulate me. It feels like they're trying to make me feel guilty by blaming me if they end up in hell. Why should anyone's religions beliefs have anything to do with other people? Aren't those beliefs about defining one's own purpose for life, about finding one's way on the spiritual journey? One can change only one's own beliefs - one has no real power over other people's beliefs.

I understand your point of view. I was expressing theirs.

In their eyes, you would be a guy about to kill himself thinking he has nothing to live for while they know if you just put the gun down and have faith to get up again, you would go into the other room and see your name was just drawn for a $2 million dollar raffle. Its a slightly shoddy analogy, but do you you accept someone throwing away everything for nothing, or do you look at him raise the gun to his head and grab ? (waiting for the  crowd )

I have heard some Christian use similar analogies. Wouldn't they be offended if someone from another religion compared belief in Christianity to suicidal depression?

My point is that I have the right to refuse to be defined by what others believe about me. I feel threatened when anyone has an agenda for me, no matter what the agenda might be. I shouldn't have to conduct my private life according to what other people want or believe.

Exactly, and you have a right to tell them to bugger off when they try to tell you otherwise. You don't have to listen. You can refuse the free pizza as it were and go on your merry way, but don't begrudge them for making the attempt. I wish Aps would stop propositioning me for gay sex, but that is his right to try. I just ignore him and go on my way.

I wasn't talking about the pizza, since that is not a pressure situation. I was simply talking about their desire to convert others. If someone gets in my face to try to convert me, of course I can tell them to bugger off. But here's a really dumb question - why should I have to? Why should I have to be on the defensive regarding my personal boundaries?

Wrong country for that. We have the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the freedom to act stupid. You may want to move to a small desert island, put up a house with the inside on the outside, and pretend you are keeping all us insane folk locked up. (excuse the minor pop culture reference)

Absolutely. I was venting about feeling on the defensive. I wasn't advocating making the behavior illegal.

I like weird movies (Being John Malkovich, A Clockwork Orange) but that reference escapes me. What movie is that?

It is a book. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.

I read those several centuries ago, but I had not remembered the reference. Douglas Adams had the same sense of humor as the Monty Python team - in fact, he co-wrote a shetch with Graham Chapman during the fourth season of the TV show. But I've never seen the Hitchhiker movie.

There was a character in the Restaraunt at the End of the Universe who was the man in control of everything (but he didn't know it). He lived in a house on an isolated planet and had the walls built like the inside of the house was on the outside and the outside was on the inside... that way he could keep all the nuts locked up. :lmao:
