Matthew 10:34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
I'll set the stage again. Jesus is actually training the Disciples to help with the mission. There are too many humans lining up for healing. So, Jesus is sending His guys out.... two by two. Yesterday... I pointed to a verse and said it was a good reason for divorce. If the leader of the home is a mean lying pervert.... that's what the others learn and that's what they will be. If the church leaders are profiting off the people in the church and raping their children, then the church will be ruined. I also pointed out that Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot were paired up and wondered if that was the beginning of CINO. If the husband is a piece of garbage.... he'll turn his family into garbage. In this part of the verses.... Jesus makes it plain. He's not working for humans. He's working for His Father. He's not here to say what humans want to hear and do the bidding of the humans. Jesus makes it plain. He's here on a mission for His Father.
So, what are we to do when a good preacher comes to the door? We're not supposed to hide and get quiet until the preacher gives up and leaves. We're supposed to welcome him in, offer him a cup of water [or tea, or coffee but not kool-aid]. We're supposed to learn and join and.... if possible... if requested.... help with the mission.
Have you ever met a child who was perfect? I don't mean perfect in their mother's eye.... that would be easy to find. I mean a child who never got into things that don't belong to them.... or who would never paint the cat with chocolate sauce.... or throw their toys in the toilet to watch them swim.... or the countless other still things children will do when Mom's busy. That's the sort of thing humans are doing.... they are acting like children.... irresponsible ignorant children. What those irresponsible ignorant children were doing [eating fruit from a tree they are supposed to avoid] is killing them. Time to step in and help..... God sent Jesus to repair the damage done and teach us not to put our toys down the toilet! Our feelings might get hurt in the process.
Jesus was actually warning them about the humans who were still following the Jewish traditions. Those traditions require faith in God. The Jewish priests figured Jesus was either insane or a demon because He was teaching love and compassion instead of the law of Moses. Jesus was warning His Disciples the Jewish leaders would not be happy. Jesus was warning His Disciples... the crowds would make the Roman Soldiers tense.
Jesus sent them out two by two.
