Jewelry question

Hoping someone can help. I have 3 gold rings I've been wearing for 15 years or more. Friday night I noticed they were a bronze color. This has never happened before. I looked all over the internet and can't find anything. Anyone else have this happen, what caused it and is there anything that can be done to bring them back to gold? This is driving me crazy, I love these rings and until this weekend, they've never been off my fingers for more than a few hours.

Bay_Kat, this might sound dumb but of course there is jewlery / gold cleaner, you might try that. However living right here on the Ches Bay, one time my wedding ring started looking a little dull, my wife said take it off and she soaked it in jewlery cleaner. I was not impressed with the results i still thought it looked very dull. A couple weeks later i went out on a friends boat in the Ches. Bay and we all went swimming while we were out on the boat, later on after coming back in i looked at my ring and it appeared much more brilliant than it did coming out of the jewlery cleaner. For grins since you live in Fl. go down to the beach and pick up a jar of ocean / gulf water, try one ring and put the ring in it and shake the jar up a few times and let it sit for an hour or so. Then rinse it off with fresh water and check it out.

Can't hurt. I'll try it. I'm headed that way next weekend, I'll take a bottle with me and grab some gulf water.

Also the wedding ring i am wearing was my fathers, so it is approx 63 years old. Not sure if this makes a difference or not. He predeceased my Mom and she kept the ring and i told her i thought it would be an honor if she let me wear it for my weeding ring. Don't know if there is any kind of different between older gold and newer gold. From looking at the gold they keep pulling up off the Fla. coasts the gold looks pretty good, don't think it will hurt it.

Interesting, one of the rings I'm talking about is my husband's father's wedding ring, which is probably the same age. I wear that one on my thumb. All the rings are real gold and all were purchased at different places and different times. They have a sort of pink tint to them and I thought it was strange that they all turned at the same time. The only thing I can think of is pool chemicals. I'm at a loss.

Could be some thing you ate...

Pure gold doesn't change color but most rings aren't made out of pure gold (24K) since it is so soft.

10K gold is almost 60% "other than gold metals" so it could be your sweat reacting to one of those metals? I can't recall but think someone told me shellfish can cause that (along with other foods but remember that one for some reason, if I'm correct).

That is interesting, I ate crabs last weekend.

Ring queen here...... Out of all my rings, only one has done that. I noticed it after I had come back from the pool last summer. I tried regular jewelry cleaner which did not work so I ended up taking it to a professional and it seems to be restored. Could be one of the chemicals they use, but I doubt it is the chlorine. Good luck.

Maybe that or maybe a body chemistry change.

I had a sterling silver ring on my thumb that would turn bronze in the pool and the water at my grandma's house would turn it. The water at my grandma's stunk of sulfur. I got a cloth that was embeded with jewelry cleaner and with a little elbow grease all was right in the world again. Soaking it in regular jewelry cleaner did nothing for it.
