The Lord Speaks
Job 38:1 Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:
2 “Who is this that obscures my plans
with words without knowledge?
3 Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.

23 which I reserve for times of trouble,
for days of war and battle?

or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?
25 Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain,
and a path for the thunderstorm,
26 to water a land where no one lives,
an uninhabited desert,
27 to satisfy a desolate wasteland
and make it sprout with grass?
28 Does the rain have a father?
Who fathers the drops of dew?
29 From whose womb comes the ice?
Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens
30 when the waters become hard as stone,
when the surface of the deep is frozen?

Wow.... even "plain" God is magnificent. Anyone who doesn't see a sunrise or watch a bird feed its young without giving a thought to the magnificence of God who got it all started.... is missing the frosting on the cake. Sure the earth is magnificent.... and the weather is amazing.... consider the silent snow or the violent lightning. Sure the animals are terrific.... all that power trapped in those tiny little wings of a hummingbird is simply mind blowing. Everyone can see that beauty..... but some don't get the whipped cream and the cherry on top because they simply won't believe in God. Even "plain" old God makes everything better.... because there is someone to thank for everything.... someone to show stupid humans what a beautiful life it can be.

In Job’s speeches, Job said that he wanted to meet God. Job wanted God to act as a judge. Then, Job was sure that God would help him. God would declare that Job was innocent. So Job would feel like a prince when he met God (Job 31:37).
However, Job thought that God caused Job’s troubles. Job even spoke as if God was a cruel enemy (Job 16:9-14). So Job argued that he himself was right. And he argued that God was unfair (Job 32:2).
In God’s speech, God did not explain Job’s troubles. Instead, God taught Job. God gave a list of many things that Job could not explain. These things are the work of God. Nobody else could do such things.
Job had spoken as if he himself was very great. He even spoke as if he should be advising God (Job 23:13-17; Job 24:1). But when Job heard God’s speech, Job realised his error (Job 42:1-6). Job was not a proud man. His words might sometimes seem proud. But really, Job was speaking about things that he did not know.
All these verses get down to one thing.... "plain" God is handling a lot more than my existence. Contrary to current belief.... God did not create the world for me. He created the earth so He could walk around with stupid humans. God allowed stupid humans to choose. Most stupid humans are like Job... they think, just because they are right about most thing, that they know everything and what they don't know isn't necessary.BUT.... Job didn't know about satan. Job didn't know satan was gloating. Job didn't know God was bragging on Job. Job didn't know satan told God the only reason Job loved God was because God gave Job everything Job's heart desired. Of course having kids who were worrisome is not something Job's heart would have desired.... still satan was quite uppity about why Job was such a "good man". Satan was sure that Job's nose was brown..... God is so patient... God was giving satan time to come around. God was waiting for satan to admit his sin and come back to the angels..... Job didn't know bigger fish were being fried.
Thursday an earthquake measuring 6.4 hit California. Friday there were hundreds of shocks.... some strong..... some not so much.... but all powerful. Last night or early this morning there was one that was over 7. When these happen.... it seems like solids become liquid and then solid again.... it's hard to explain.... everything I think I know is not right..... stone acts like silk..... I wonder.... just what is "plain" God doing? Man can't do anything like this.... this is all grand design stuff..... blows my mind stuff. I heard this question on the news this morning..... "if you are on a roller coaster when an earthquake hits..... how do you know what is causing the rolling?"
So God says.... "Job.... you have no idea who you are calling down on your stupid human self." God is patient.... but when God does say "enough" stones can turn to jelly and back.
