Testimonies About Jesus

John 5:31 “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. 32 There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is true.

33 “You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. 34 Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. 35 John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.

36 “I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, 38 nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. 39 You study[c] the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

41 “I do not accept glory from human beings, 42 but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. 43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. 44 How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God[d]?

45 “But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. 46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47 But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”

c.John 5:39 Or 39 Study
d.John 5:44 Some early manuscripts the Only One

How perfect is the timing of these verses? At the beginning of this chapter, Jesus healed a man and told him to take up his mat and walk. The Pharisees saw this and accused the man of breaking the law because he was working on the Sabbath [carrying a mat] and they accused Jesus of breaking the law because he was working on the Sabbath [healing].

Now Jesus is delivering what a lot of the commentaries call a "keynote speech". By definition, these commentaries indicate that Jesus is setting the principle theme of His mission.

I see it best explained in verses 41-44... He's saying He doesn't need their approval or backing.

In verses 45-47 He says He's not going to tell on the Pharisees [and other believers] to God. He says Moses is already doing that!

Jesus is sitting on the Right Hand of God the Father Almighty talking about us. He'll either say.... "I don't know who this is" or "This is your daughter [or son] and she has done her very best to honor you".

Figured I should tell you why you are praying for me. I'm looking for a Bible Believing Church close to Lusby. I need to be in a good women's Sunday School and I need a good worship service where I can use my Bible to look up the scriptures as the Preacher goes through his sermon.

I don't want to be in the Baptist Church for now.

And all this talk about Mormons is getting to me. I don't know about them but I'm learning. When I finish this book.... then I'll make some kind of decision about them.... but not until then. They went to all the trouble to write a book and I really think I should read it. I read a book about atheists once... back in the 70's.... it's been mentioned in these forums before. It didn't turn me into an atheist.... in fact it made my faith a lot stronger.

I think when you are a child of God.... you are protected by the Holy Spirit. If Satan is talking to you.... you get a warning. When the Holy Spirit is talking to you.... it sends this wonderful warm chill down your spine.... and then all over you. You know what I mean?

My Dad always told me to check out other places and stay where I am comfortable. Since my Dad was the one who brought me to Christ, I like to listen to what he told me. He was a good man and a Deacon. He tried to live a Christ Like life and if you ask me, my Dad did a pretty good job.

Jesus didn't need our approval. We need His. Right?
