Jesus Walks on the Water
This is a fun story. I can imagine how the disciples felt. We talked about the storms that would brew in the bowl that forms this body of water back in Matthew. As a matter of fact, according to Mark, Jesus told them to leave while He stayed behind to dismiss the crowd and go to the mountain to pray. I'm pretty sure He was sending them out before the temperature dropped and caused the storm. According to Mark, He almost walked past them.
Notice.... the same story is told by three people and each tells something a little different. Matthew talks about Peter's faith and how He was willing to step out of the boat to walk to Jesus. Mark says they didn't understand the miracle of the loaves and their hearts were hardened.
At any rate... it was a really rough day for the minds of the disciples. First Jesus fed enough people to fill City Stadium in Green Bay using only 5 loaves of bread and a couple of fish, then He sent them out in the sea where they were battered by a storm they could not row through, then He shows up in the middle of the sea, walking on water.
On top of that.... John says once Jesus did get in the boat, they were immediately at the other shore. Jesus turned a rowboat into a goboat!
Now the people on the shore.... it took them a while to realize that Jesus had gone. It says there were people on the shore that figured it out too. They saw the disciples leave in one boat without Jesus. The other boat was not used and yet Jesus was gone. When they got word that Jesus was spotted over in Gennesaret [near Capernaum] they would have been searching for him for hours, dragging the sick on mats behind them.
Anyway it's told, anyway the disciples handled it, it's a fun story.

John 6:16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, 17 where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. 18 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” 21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
22 The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone. 23 Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.
