Jonathan Green lawn care products

I am in the middle of doing a lawn renovation here and looking pretty hard at the Jonathan Green line of Lawn Care products and was wondering if anyone else in the area has used JG stuff and what their thoughts on it were.

Specifically I am using their Black Beauty grass seed. But will also be looking at slowly swapping the yard over to using as much of their organic product line as I can.

Any thoughts from any folks with any experience with their products would be most helpful.

Never did get any feedback on this query so figured I would make a little update as to the progress of my results with it.

Starting in the beginning of August I mowed then did an application of Round Up and started killing off the entire yard. Waited about a week, mowed one setting shorter then applied another application of Round Up.

Waited another week then core aerated and dethatched. Mowed one setting shorter then raked the heck out of it and got up everything.

Also brought in 13 cu yards of topsoil and filled in a few low spots around the yard and also went around the foundation of the house and gave than more of a grade to help water to run away from the foundation as opposed to settling next to it.

Then I tried to farrow it for the first time. Farrowing is basically trying to expose any weed seeds you can and getting them to germinate and then kill them off as well with Round Up. I was likely the only nut in the area trying to kill his grass and water his weeds :killingme .

Anyway after doing that for about a week and a half, which I have learned the hard way that I should have done it longer, I proceeded with putting down some of the Jonathan Green products I chose.

The grass seed is called Black Beauty and I have never used it before. Also put 20 lbs of Midnight KBG . Put it down right at the beginning of September along with their Started Fertilizer and a couple of Soil Amenities.

So far so good. Have mowed the grass twice thus far at the 2nd to highest setting. Grass is a RICH DARK grass as compared to every other yards on the street. This is why I picked this grass.

Did learn a few things in the process. When Farrowing I did not do it nearly long enough. I likely should have done that for at least three weeks if not longer. Some of the weeds seeds did not germinate until well after I put down the grass seed.

When choosing topsoil, be careful with what you get. I knew when I saw it dumped in the driveway I was hosed because it had absolutely no dark coloring to it. Once I put it down and mixed the Fertilizer and seed in it compacted so hard that I basically lost most of that seed and ended up having to till up those areas and redo while adding more organic material.

Also learned be careful about what kind of straw you put down to cover your bare spots. The stuff I got must have been loaded with weed seed.

Overall I am happy with the results I got. If I am out in the front yard I get quite a few compliments from the joggers and walkers going by and quite a few even stop and ask me how I went about all this and what products I have used.

I will be sticking to Jonathan Green products for me yard care unless I see something in the future that makes me change my mind. But for now, I am pretty happy. :coffee:

That sounds like a lot of work. You sure the grass won't overtake the weeds, with a little help from a weed killer?
