In the tradition of The Bad Seed comes Joshua, an audience and critic favorite at January's Sundance Film Festival. The plot concerns Joshua Cairn, a well-groomed child prodigy whose genius is rivaled only by his psychopathy. Ever devious, he's set in motion an elaborate (and, perhaps, lethal) plot to destroy the reputation and lives of his parents, but to what end?
Not only is it suspenseful (and, at times, morbidly hilarious), but this is also the smartest and most character-driven horror film in a very long time. The acting is especially top-notch and award-caliber. The way the villian's (who is, in this case, a disturing grade school version of Hannibal Lecter and Tom Ripley) dastardly plot plays out is jolting, and the unpredictable final result is alternately tragic and creepy.
I highly recommended this film.
