Ubi bene ibi patria
" NEW YORK (Reuters) - A $100 million lawsuit claiming that NBC prompted the suicide of a former Texas prosecutor who was caught up in its popular sting series "To Catch a Predator" is moving ahead after a ruling by a U.S. federal judge on Tuesday.

Louis Conradt, a 56-year-old assistant district attorney, shot himself in November 2006 after he was confronted at his Terrell, Texas, home by police officers. They were accompanied by an NBC news crew that was there to film his arrest.

"To Catch a Predator," a segment of NBC's "Dateline" newsmagazine program, lures men to a house with hidden cameras in the belief that they are about to have sexual relations with underage girls or boys. There, they are confronted by the program's host and promptly arrested. In Conradt's case, he was expecting to meet up with a 13-year-old boy."

The irony here is that NBC News which produces Dateline is arguably the most liberally biased of the networks. They are going to end up paying out a huge sum because of the liberal tennet "Right or wrong you are a victim and if in doubt sue the shiat out of the people who victimized you." :lmao:

...but think 'conspiracy', Pete.

The whole, broader intent may simply have been to get a lawsuit so that 'private' behavior is even more off limits than it is now.

Who will benefit from this suit, presuming we find ourselves in a world where child molesters are protected from stings and so forth?

Lawyers and, obviously, sexual predators. Think outside the box.

You think NBC went out specifically hoping to get sued for $100M?

I don't...

You think NBC went out specifically hoping to get sued for $100M?

...know, but I do know damn well that there has been conversations long before now as to what to do if an episode goes bad and the answer wasn't 'let's not go there'.

And don't think that NBC is going to be taking back greenbacks from any executives responsible for the show. There will be a settlement, spurred by their insurance company long before any final judgment. The underlying issue, 'driving' someone to suicide by exposing their PRIVATE behavior is what is of note, not money.

But his "private" activity was illegal. That's the point. No illegal activity, no police and news cameras. This wasn't a Candid Camera style set up.

What if he had actually met up with a 13 year old boy, was reported, arrested, and then commited suicide?

You are correct, it was not my most coherent post. It is still right though.

You are a liberal, no one needs to tell you about "victim hood" you have the "victim gene" it comes naturally.

NBC caved and settled the suit. Chalk up a victory for the criminals!

 Personally, if my brother was a pervert I wouldn't want to draw even more attention to my family with this type of ridiculous lawsuit. But of course, the justice system failed once again and she won. I suppose she's going to use the money she won to support a good cause? Maybe to "counsel" pedophiles or something? :sarcasm:

Lets say I placed a car on 295 and when the car strippers came along and started taking parts off it I went down and made a citizens arrest. During this arrest they attacked me and I shot the whole stinking thieving bunch.
.

Vigilantism works.

Would I be congratulated for my vigilantism or arrested for it?

More likely arrested.

I am not against stings ,but I am against NBC playing the part of vigilante's for profit.
The profit coming as people watch their show.NBC didnt do this to take pervs' off the street , they did it with a profit motive.

If there is going to be a sting , let the police do it. Not some TV show making money off it.

I agree this scumbag was deserving of punishment, but didnt the Supreme Court just say that child rape wasn't a capitol crime? I dont agree with that either, but it is the law of the land.
