Just a Bit of Excitement

Just a bit....

Went out to get some dinner and as I got near 235 there was a kid on a John Deere attempting to mow down a pretty heavy leaf covering. Smoke billowing from the bottom. I mean, LOTS of smoke. Kid was oblivious. Got a little closer, realized that all the leaves packed up in the front of the mower all around the muffler were on fire. Another passerby started honking his horn to get the kid's attention. I mean.... how could you not see all of that fire and smoke?? Kid jumps off and runs away... There were a couple of cars stopping, so I didn't. When I came back a few minutes later, the tractor was gone and no sign of fire, so I guess it ended ok.

Speaking of excitement....we just got home from a day spent on Kent Island. As we got to the Solomons Bridge, couldn't miss a gaggle of fire engines (three or four), cop cars and other emergency vehicles....lights all a blazin'...stacked together and blocking the island road in front of the Calvert Marine Museum.

Saw some of the fire emergency vehicles headed that way on 235, same time I saw the tractor on fire. Thought they overshot the tractor emergency.

Had my own "excitement" yesterday - driving down Mervell Dean towards Clarke's Landing Road - and this huge pickup pulls out from the stop sign right in front of me. Thankfully managed to speed up and swerve around in front of him - I didn't think there was any time to slam on the brakes.

I don't know why, but there's at least a handful of spots in this country where people THINK there are stop signs, and there aren't - drivers on Mervell Dean do not have a stop - the ones going the other way, do. Ditto the emergence from the McDonald's parking lot - the customers have one - no one else does.

Exiting from Harbor Freight to 235 comes to mind. No stop signs between HF and 235 in either direction, but the crossroad has them, so naturally everyone assumes it's a 4-way stop and cut right out in front of folks.
