Just a lil warning...

I'm a compassionate person-but if I come upon another vehicle w/a child or animal locked inside and the windows rolled up I can't guarantee I can control myself...

Go to AutoZone and buy a glass breaking hammer.. the one that looks like a ballpoint pen would be nice and concealable..

Then you can blame the heat for making the window "explode"...

You can break a window with a key; even a completely closed one. Place pointy end of key in the middle of the glass and push. A nail set works also.

That's kind of how the Ballpoint pen works..

It's on a spring, and when you push on it it recedes into the barrel then it reaches it's trigger point the pointy steel pops out and breaks the glass.

I do hope you reported it, especially if it was a child left in the car with the windows rolled up. I love my animals too, but a kid? :nono:

People are SO IGNORANT. Their day will come when they burn in hell. Definitely call 911....but then that still takes a while to get there......grrrrr

I have actually checked to see if the door is unlocked, and taken the animal out IF they weren't aggressive. If they are, I call 911 right away. If I got the animal out, I stand there, and wait for the Owner, and give em HELL! I always have an extra Leash in my Car.

We saw a dog in a car when it was about 100 degrees and called 911. While waiting we looked for a way to get the dog out. One guy was able to reach thru the window that was open about 4" and unlock the door. We got the dog out and gave it water. The police showed up in about 20 minutes and scolded all of us for getting the dog out of the car! We were told we could be arrested for breaking into the car!!!! The officer did find out whose dog it was and gave them a ticket but the ticket was also for having expired tags. The laws need to change. Things are so backward now.

It happened again Thurs., heard a dog yelping/barking; saw a Rat Terrier type dog pacing back 'n forth in an old 4-wheel clunker w/windows mostly rolled up. I called PD and animal control.
I saw a 20+ something guy in the shade outside of an Italian restaurant, like he was waiting for someone. I pointed at him, and then the vehicle and I shrugged. He looked the other way like he didn't see me. I walked over to the vehicle with cell phone in hand..he came running. I kept a healthy distance-
Me-"WTH?"
He-"Aaah my girl's inside getting some food"
Me-"So you leave your dog in the car while you sit in the shade? Get the dog out now, I'm calling animal control and PD"
He-"Man, it's only been 9 minutes"
Me-"Tell it to the law, he's here now"
He-"Oh s#@t"
PD-Ticket and summons

I offered to take the dog but guy's GF stated crying and hugging the dog while holding a cup of water in her hand. This is getting real old.

So, if a stranger sees a dog or child in distress, they can punch out a car window, and be held on charges? I never knew that; but that doesn't make sense, if you are saving a life. So, there should be no charges. Oh, I know why; because they forgot their child/animal was in the car. OK. Makes me think of the movie theatre shooting thread, where they want to make laws after the fact that those poor people died, or like when a plane goes down, and then they want to investigate why it happened. Always, after the fact. I am with you; bust the windows out, and see what happens later. Same as someone breaking into your house and you shoot them, and you get arrested. Oh, well. Only the strong survive.

Of course you can be charged...

Up to you though, stand there and watch a child die, or chance being charged...

Remember a story a few years back, (MA maybe?) 100 degree day, kid locked in car. Concerned passerby calls 911, cops show up do nothing other than ask for an ambulance, then they sat there and waited.

Cops were not allowed to break into the car until the child showed signs of distress. By the time they decided the child's life was in danger it was too late, the child died at the hospital.

So the citizen did the "right" thing, they didn't get charged (and neither did the cops) but a child is dead... Good thing they did the right thing.

I edited my post before your reply because I thought about it more. All I can say about the story you posted about the child is that it sums up all the words that we are not allowed to use on this forum. Multiple question: Why were they just standing there waiting for the child to go into distress, or why were they not looking for the responsible party? Or, what the hell was going on? Does the vehicle have to be on fire?.. no pun intended. Just ridiculous. I am putting a brick in my car tomorrow. And, I know forum members know mamatutu is very sad and really pissed off! So, it seems I should put that negative energy to a more positive use! I think I should start patrolling the parking lots in Prince Frederick! But, the situation of children/pets left in cars at any time of year, is not funny. When I see that, I always wonder if the children/pets could be kid/petnapped, and in the worst case, die. I will not be an idle passerby from now on. :frown:

I was in giant 2 weeks ago when i saw a dog panting and barking. luckily the owner was right behind me or i would have called it in and gave tag number and all. I am too much of an animal lover to see an animal suffer because the owner is too stupid. Mind you the windows in this car were just a crack and it was in the 90s the day i went shopping. The owner said to me i was only in the store for 5min. 5min in my books is too long to leave a dog on a hot day like that but she said to me she didn't think so i just shook my head and walked away. I for one never leave my dog alone in the car she is always with someone as that way we can leave the airconditioning on for her on days like this.
