Just another reason why commercial airlines suck

They kicked everyone off the planes because of a tornado, relocated them outside of security, made them go back through security when the threat was over, then the planes left before passengers could get back to the gate. AND took off with all their luggage. THEN they all had to stand in a massive line to rebook their flight.

✈️ = 🤡

I could drive to Dallas, Reno, or Seattle.

I‘ll let the Vikings come here.

You could, granted. Me, pretty sure niether the boss nor my wife would be happy with me tacking 3-4 extra days on each four day trip becuase I didnt want to fly. Not to mention the Joint Travel Regulation only allows reimbursement for driving if its less expensive than flying. I couldnt make that case for Jax, let alone those other places.

Really. If I can't get there by personal vehicle, I don't go and my poor vehicles are keeping me closer and closer to home as we both age.

If I hit the megamillions my indulgent purchase would be a private plane and a full time pilot. Not some ginormous gold plated monster, but just something to get maybe 4 people and light luggage from point A to point B without the hassle of airlines and airports and psycho humans. I love a road trip but what I'd really like is to say, "Hey, Monello (or a friend or whoever), let's go to Taos this weekend."

And while typing that I realized it's probably not true. If I hit the megamillions my impulse trip to Taos wouldn't be a weekend hop, it would be a hit the road journey seeing a lot of stuff along the way and ending up in Taos for as long as I wanted, then continuing west to see some more places. Getting lost in America is the most fun I've ever had; flying over things not so much.

Our experiences this past week with air travel hasn’t been good. First my daughter flew overseas on Wednesday. Her flight was initially delayed 1.5hrs. Then they put everyone on the plane and delay them another 2.5hrs - total 4hr delay.

Then on Friday, my wife, aunt, and I are scheduled to fly to FL at 3pm out of DCA. Informed of a 2hr flight delay before we even leave home but told to arrive at airport for a 3pm departure because they are working to get flight back on time. Yeah right. After sitting in airport for more than 2hrs, our flight was finally cancelled. No available flights go out Friday. They can book us on a flight at noon on Saturday but with predicted storms we are not convinced we will get to FL on time Saturday afternoon for the event this trip was intended for so we rent a car and drive the 15hrs thru the night. Ugh! Let’s see if the plane gets us home on time Monday afternoon or do we have to drive back.

Yeah - air travel sucks sometimes.

My 1st rule of air travel, get the earliest flight possible, anything after 10 am is a crap shoot.

Here you go! Best of all, it's a Honda; all you have to do is change the oil every 3,000 miles!

I like them between 930 and 1130. Earlier than that its 0 dark thirty out of bed. And as much as I've been travelling recently, I've had pretty good luck. Longest delay was I think 40 minutes. I avoid connecting flights like the plague, which helps a lot.

Since I don’t fly I don’t pay much attention to what is going on in the air traffic world. However, I have seen stuff on the news recently about how bad air travel is or is getting. Mega delays and cancellations. Why is this happening? Are there just not enough employees like other businesses that were affected by Covid and not enough people coming back to work? Is it because everything this current administration has a hand in turns to $hit?
