Just Wondering If This Means Anything

I'm not sure how long it's been, but my full grown cat will not only climb on my lap and go to sleep, but now she will climb up on my chest; if I'm stretched out in my recliner; then curl up and go to sleep right under my chin with her head on my shoulder. She's not sick; at least she doesn't appear to be. She has lost a lot of weight; going from something like 11-12 lbs. down to much less; although I don't know for sure exactly how much less.

She can jump up on my stove and things of that height again, so she's not having arthirits problems, as best I can tell. To reference my first paragraph, is her behavior just a result of being left alone all day long and she wants attention?

**Note: It's most likely my own fault. I tend to treat her like a small child.
(Yeah.....Yeah.....I know......)

Any ideas? Any feline behavior experts? I'm not concerned or worried.
I'm just curious.

TIA

Take her to the vet. Cats hide illness and unexplained weight loss can be the sign of something serious.

:yeahthat: My cat did the same thing and she ended up having kidney disease. Don't wait, take her soon!

Maybe I left something out when I mentioned Ribbons' weight loss.
You see, I used to feed her twice a day; full bowl; one of those two-tray pet food bowls. it takes one dry measuring cupful to fill the bowl. When I was doing that twice a day, she porked right up to around 10-12 lbs..
I don't do that anymore. She gets only one now and does fine; and has lost the excess weight. But, she is loooonnng overdue for a vet visit.

You cut her food intake in half! She's probably crawling up there and waiting for you to fall asleep so that she can slit your throat!!!!

J/K!!

Is this your concern? Because my cats do that all the time.

Why would you have insurance on your animals?

You know medical insurance. I do not have any pets right now (just the kids:lol) but I see on here and w/ family/friends that they are taking their animals to the vet to discover they have cancer, kidney problems, etc... and figured that it would be pretty costly... and was wondering if it was worth it to have the insurance or not.

If one of my cats got a big illness like that, I'd have them put down.

I have a diatribe prepared regarding people who prolong the suffering of animals for their own selfishness, but I'll spare you.

Actually I feel the same way

My cousin had a problem w/ her yorkie and in a matter of 2 months she spent about $2800 @ the vet.(same issue once each of those two months that required her to be in the vets office for a few days) I think that is just outrageous and I would have put it down after the first time.

I have PetPlan Silver insurance for both my cats. I haven't made any claims yet, but so far they seem like an incredible company from the testimonials I've heard, and their customer service that I've experienced. When I finally got around to faxing them medical records, one of my cats on their plan just had to be put to sleep and it was on the records that were sent. Very shortly after the fax they sent a sympathy card with hearts and paws that had a packet of Forget-Me-Not seeds in it. I nearly cried all over again, it was such a sweet sentiment.

I'll be making my first claims on the 10th when I go in for Fry's check up on his ears. I should get back a couple hundred dollars for all the visits I've taken Manny in for recently that he's been covered for (I've only had the insurance a few months).

$100/year
$200 deductible
80% reimbursement on damn near everything

Can't remember the cap, but it was pretty high. I think it was somewhere between $5-10k.

I'd consider it worth it. I take my cats in often for check ups, and always leave with peace of mind or medication. Often the peace of mind comes at the price of an x-ray and other tests, but that's okay; my pet's health is priceless to me.

I completely agree (Manny).

Although the other bills do rack up to a hefty amount. Then there's always when your buddy swallows something he or she can't get out one way or the other, then there's the $1500-2000 surgery. I WISH I had the insurance then.

That's really not bad. I've spent more than that in three vet visits.

I got insurance through the AKC after my dog ate a sock and needed emergency surgery for the blockage. Just piece of mind really. The sock incident alone cost nearly $3000. If she has some major problem and there's no hope, I'd put her down but the insurance is really just for "acts of stupidity" on her part.

Not bad! :yay:

I've been very fortunate with my animals. Their yearly vet visit runs me about $100 each. The most expensive thing I've paid for was the Boxer's surgery last year, but that was only $250 and my neighbor reimbursed me since it was his fault.

Earlier this evening, I was trying to "work" on my computer and my cat jumps up on the desk. So, I pick her up and scratch her head, ears and belly; where I felt something about the size of a marble. It's not on the outside, under her fur but it seems to be just below her rib cage on her left side inside her abdominal cavity and/or what I'm assuming is her stomach.

I don't know a whole lot about feline internal physiology; that's why I said "assuming."

Chasey; or anybody; if you have any info about the pet insurance would you PM it to me please? Or, does anybody have a "ballpark" on what x-rays cost these days?

TIA
