On January 24 at 10:49 p.m., officers responded to a business in the 2000 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of an assault. A preliminary investigation showed the suspect, 16, attempted to buy cigarettes from the clerk, but the clerk refused the sale because he knew the suspect was a minor. The suspect then opened his jacket, showed a handgun, and threatened to shoot the clerk. The suspect fled prior to the officers’ arrival. The suspect was subsequently identified by the patrol officers. On January 27, a search warrant was obtained and served at the suspect’s residence. Detectives recovered a replica handgun in the suspect’s bedroom and other evidence linking him to the case. After a review with the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office, the suspect was charged with second-degree assault. The investigation is ongoing.
