But JW's get clowned more than Mormons....why is that?

All I know is JW's dont celebrate holidays and birthdays, but Mormons dont celebrate Halloween either im told....

Some mormons do celebrate Holloween. We always did. It's a difference of Dogma. JW's don't have a Prophet. Here's a source.

No Longer the Kid
I celebrate what I want, when I want, dont really care who else does or doesnt do the same....so I just either let them knock till they leave, or I open the door with my Rotti beside me, that normally lets them know to leave...unless its kids, then Ill just open the door and let them know Im not interested....

I suspect that Jehovas Witnesses are better known for the door-to-door stuff because they've made that type of witnessing a higher priority than Mormons have.

JWs don't celebrate any national holidays or birthdays. They do observe certain Christian holy days like Easter.

Mormons celebrate a mixture of holidays, the main LDS church celebrates Easter, Christmas, and observs all national and personal holidays. Other Mormon churches have different views, especially about Christmas. I couldn't find anything official or unofficial on Halloween, though.

What do you mean others? There's LDS who celebrate Chrismas and then ther's the "Re-organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" Who have changed thier name and I don't know much about. That's all.

The official LDS site specifically listed Christmas as being celebrated, one of the smaller church sites listed it as not being celebrated. I assume they were one of the smaller sects, just as there are fundementalist Christian groups.

This church is not AT all affiliated with the LDS (Mormons) It's almost like saying the Davidians represent the Catholic Church.

They still believe in Plural Marriages.. for one to be a Prophet of the Church they must have lineage to Joseph Smith.. Women are definitely subservient.

As far as the JW, Mormon thing, I think most can see the Mormons to be more in line with mainstream religion. More part of the world then trying to be different from the world.

The biggest difference between the door knockers, JW's are usually local church members that do the door knocking as part of a daily ritual or requirment of the church, on top of work kids etc.. Mormons, their missionaries are away from home, from anywhere in the world. They are on a two year mission, they are not allowed to work, they don't get paid, their personal lives are VERY restricted for those two years as to what they can and can't do, and their lives are centered around missionary work for the church the entire two years. They have to have either saved for the two year mission, have their family pay their way, or if need be, their home church pays for them to be on a mission. Church usually gives a monthly $$ amount the family or the missionary have to pay.

Mormon men are EXPECTED to go on a two year mission when they become adults (18 - 20) and women can volunteer to go on a mission.

Church organization doesn't really work that way. It works more like the Catholic church with the Prophet in place of the Pope and a hierarchal (sp?) structure all the way down to local Ward Bishops. Like I said, there is another branch of the Church and I can't remember what their new name is, but thay split from the original church back in the 1800's and are just about a completely different religion. I don't really know much more of them than that. Hehe, techniacally, I'm an ordained Preist, but because I don't follow the religion and sin too much, I don't have the authority to use that ordination's power.

Yeah, I decided not to do the mission thing. My brother did though.

If you want to know the make up the church Hierarchy watch Battlestar Galactica.. It was written by a mormon missionary while he was on his mission..

you have a prophet.. quorum of the Twelve (apostles) .. The (something) of the Seventy.. and your local leadership made up of Bishops, priests, Elders Quorum etc..you have regional leadership and all the local and Regional leaders are unpaid.

Yeah, I never made it to Elder like my brother.

I know how that goes. My brothers and I are disappointments because we are no longer Mormon, and bailed as soon as we could.

But my Dad does have a step daughter who did the mission thing, went to BYU, married a dentist, has four kids, and plays the game 110%. It is so much fun to listen to him talk about how great she is all day, every day, non-stop. At least he has one kid he's proud of.

My parents AREN'T members and have never been,. but the church was PERFECT for my sister.. went to BYU, found her a husband (got her MRS degree), and abiding by the church rules has never worked a single day since she got married.. she HAS A masters Degree bought and paid for by my parents, and not ONE day of work. She was married in the Temple in Salt Lake, and by the rules cannot get divorced.. Husband works his ass off trying to support a family of 8, with one daughter that depends on them for support through college and her mission etc..

There are ways to get divorced. My parents were married in SLC, and my dad was able to smooth the divorce over by portraying my mom as evil and having her ex-communicated.

It's funny that the step sister who is a stay at home mom is the only one with a degree, and she's the success.

My brothers and I all went to college, we just didn't see a need for the piece of paper once oppurtunity arrived. My older brother is a programmer for CA state, my younger brother has his own business, and I do logistics for the Navy. Between the three of us there has been one DUI and one divorce (both the same brother). Yet we are the failures because we aren't Mormon.

Yeah, my parents were sealed in the DC temple and they got divorced. My dad and my stepmom later had to recieve permission from the Church Presidentcy to get sealed themselves.
