For the smaller, more localized elections...I don't even consider party affiliation, unless given reason to. If it's a vote that I haven't studied up on at all (Sherriff, for instance...)...I won't cast a vote for that race.
I'm the same way, and for the same reasons. It's rare that being a Republican or Democrat has much relevance - at least to me - at the local level.

I also won't vote for a referendum or question, if I really don't have much of a clue. I'd rather cast an intentional vote than just toss one out there.

Similarly, if an incumbent seems to be doing a good job the previous term, I give them a vote. I voted for Mikulski once, because she kept the local businesses from tearing down our security fence - by securing money for a nicer looking one. I also met her once - I think she came up to about my belly button. Next time around, probably not - I base my vote on each term in office, not their entire tenure.

I met Dyson yesterday while exiting my commuter bus - not sure about him. ALMOST everything he has done I would tend to support - but I have to admit, a few negative brochures have made me doubt. I'll probably pass, because I don't KNOW the negative issues well enough to vote against him.

One thing that always gets lost in these elcetions, is that all of America wants the best person in the job...doing the best they can. If "the wrong person" wins...deep down I hope he or she proves me wrong. Give me a reason to vote for them next time...not against them.
Which is why I absolutely will vote for Ehrlich. I think he's done a good job. Being supportive of the President as a minus is the kind of thinking that cost Lieberman the primary - the birds of a feather kind of crap. O'Malley has to give me a compelling reason to *replace* Ehrlich. Tell me WHY *you're* better, because bottom line, I do tend to believe you ALL suck.

You realize that negative campaigning really only works when you just have two parties. You can base an entire media blitz around why the other guy sucks - and you win by default. Build a strong third and fourth party - and now you have to "win" votes by telling people why they should vote FOR you.

You have got to be kidding. You've been listenning to Dick Cheney too much. So..what is it this time..."If you don't like/agree with/support/believe the Republican party line, you're filled with hate...and play Monopoly with Osama Bin Laden every Tuesday night."?

The funny thing about all of this (well, the Steele part, specifically) is that you have no idea what my opinion of the guy is. What I think about him, in comparison to his opponent.

That said...if you can't see the difference between a sticker that says "Democrats for Steele", or "Steele Democrats", and

STEELE
Democrat

...then...well....okay then.

Just wondering....are there any "Steele Republican" stickers out and about?
Where did I say what you thought of Steele? When the blood rage settles, we will be here to help you see the light.

So...you don't think there are alot of stupid people in America? People who don't look into the issues when it comes to choosing a candidate...just blindly vote for the (D) or (R) next to the name?
Sorry to disappoint you but I don't refer to people as stupid. I think people who think others are stupid is stupid thinking. How's that? :twitch:

And all along, I've tried so hard to be smart, witty, and well read....all just to impress you. Well....****. I guess I'm destined to be stuck in a war in Iraq....despite my search for knowledge.

Despite your opinion of me...I find you to be extremely intelligent, open-minded, and level-headed. You know...in a Ann Coulter/Rush Limbaugh sort of way.

Kerry's Apology

Not sure if this got posted yet.

Kerry's Apology

Is it considered a real apology if the person is pressured into apologizing rather than coming from his own conscience?

You know what...I don't think that I have ever seen a bumper sticker that says what party the candidate belongs too. That would be my explanation of why there are no "STEELE Republican" stickers and there are "STEELE Democrat" stickers that were given out at a Democrats for Steele rally.

So Kerad, why do you get so up-in-arms about people misinterpreting what Kerry said while misinterpreting the Steele bumper stickers?

Is it an apology when you are making an excuse with your apology? :tap:

The comment Kerry made seems out of date to me. Today kids have the choice to either enlist in the military or enroll in college. When he was a kid if you weren't in college you were almost screwed.

This just sounds like another attempt to equate Iraq with Vietnam.

This is exactly what has been part and arcel of the Democrats and their apologists, like Kerad.
I think it has been the case that either party doesn't like to apologize or admit their wrongdoings even if there apparent.

This is par for the course withthe Democrats - not wanting to take responsibility for their own words and actions, trying to blame it on someone who had nothing to do with it.

For the record, the White House didn't call me and tell me what to think of Kerry's statement. In fact, I posted my reaction before the White House even MADE a statement.

How about the rest of you? Bush or Rove give you a buzz and put the bug in your ear?

If the Steele Democrat stickers pass your test for honesty and integrity, then so be it. No need for you to concern yourself with the matter further. It doesn't pass my test (or Russert's test, for that matter)...but that really doesn't matter, does it.

As for Kerry...I dounderstand why there was confusion. After hearing their excuse for it, I'm satisfied.

Of course those that are already anti-Kerry are going to pounce on it with both feet. I expect that. With less than a week to go...the Republicans need all the talking points they can get. The Democrats would do the exact same thing if the roles were reversed...no doubt.

And if you are one of those who honestly doesn't think he was talking about the President, and was in fact ripping on the military...well...be outraged, I guess. Call him names. Make fun of him. Don't vote for him.

So what you're saying is that Democrats are so ignorant that they would have no idea that the Lt. Gov of a Republican Governor, who runs around campaigning with George Bush, is a Republican? That they might be fooled into thinking he's a Democrat?

Interesting. I never thought about it like that. I mean, I've had my doubts about the intelligence of Democrats, but it never occurred to me that they were THAT stupid.

Thanks for pointing it out. :yay:
