Kerry v Bush

Flip-flopping is a common practice of pander bears, as the late Paul Tsongas used to call them. Bush said finding Osama was a top priority; then he said it wasn't. Kerry said he would never appoint a pro-life judge; now he says he could. This election is not about the lesser of two evils but the lesser of two flip-floppers.

If Ronald Reagan was The Great Communicator, today's batch can be called The Great Equivocators.

When did Bush say that capturing bin Laden wasn't a top priority?

Although I believe that focussing on bin Laden is merely symbolic at this point, since once he is gone, there are many that could take his place.

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our Number one priority and we will not rest until we find him!" - George W. Bush, September 13, 2001

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and I really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority." - George W. Bush, March 13, 2002

And there is more...

[Bush]reversed his decision on allowing National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice to testify under oath in public before the 9/11 commission.

This is after the president initially resisted the idea of a commission to investigate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the first place

The president initially argued that a federal Department of Homeland Security wasn't needed, but then devised a plan to create one.

He resisted a commission to investigate Iraq intelligence failures, but then relented.

He opposed, and then supported, a two-month extension of the 9/11 commission's work, after the panel said protracted disputes over access to White House documents left too little time.

He initially said any access to the president by the commission would be limited to just one hour but relaxed the limit earlier this month.

And lets not forget Bush's strong desire to fingerprint those coming in from "south of the border", then after meeting with Mr. Fox decided everyone wouldn't be fingerprinted after all.

Amazes me that Bush would attack Kerry for doing the same exact thing he does. Gotta love politics.

I feel his pain.

I opposed buying a new truck, but after doing more calculations I relented.

I proposed going to my folks house for Easter but changed my mind.

I told my boy no more ice cream, but reversed myself a few minutes later.

I thought about doing the Medical Savings account to cover the deductables on insurance, but talked to some people and decided against it.

My #1 priority this year was getting my savings built back up after buying the house, but that changed to fixing up the house and saving less.

This morning I was going to go with the Red shirt and gray dress pants but after thinking about my schedule I opted for the green Dockers and yellow cotton shirt.

You see as things evolve and become clearer a smart person remains flexible as priorities and situations change. Alas in this media driven world people are pushed for an ABSOLUTE POSITION on every topic RIGHT NOW or you are branded a waffler or indecisive.

Kinda different that having a vote recorded and then denying you did it.

Gee, kids - maybe if Bush married a rich woman, then had it annulled so he could marry ANOTHER rich woman, ya'll "progressives" would like him enough to vote for him. :jet:

I can't stand either Bush or Kerry, and this Web site just confirms my feelings:

http://www.factcheck.org/

The President's ad recycles bogus claims, then tells only part of the story about Kerry's position on tax breaks for couples and children...Kerry ad puts words in Bush's mouth that Bush never uttered...Animated cartoon claims Bush cuts education funding, but it's really up 58%...Bush campaign falsely accuses Kerry of voting 350 times for tax increases. Bush’s own words mislead reporters...

Instead of a V-chip, I'll look for a P-chip for my TV to switch the channel any time a candidate or partisan pundit comes on the screen.

Good for you. Just make sure you turn in your voter registration card as well.

It's not the politics I object to, it's the fighting and the lying.

A better idea would be to install each candidate and pundit with a Taser that goes off automatically whenever he or she lies. Would help keep them in line, plus the debates would be entertaining.

That idea gets my vote! :yay:

Honestly, I enjoy the partisan bickering and I find it informative. If George Bush did some horrible thing, he's certainly not going to tell us about it. It's up to his opposition to dig the dirt and inform the public. Then Bush gets to either spin it or deny it.

I don't, because I'm uncomfortable watching people get angry.

Shoot, I don't think they get angry enough! Well, the Republicans anyway - the Dems can get pretty fired up, get to yelling and carrying on. The Republicans just sit there like dummies trying to be polite. :duh:

The latest flip-flops: Kerry now says life begins at conception. Bush is now negotiating on nuclear arms with North Korea, a member of the Axis Of Evil. And Ralph Nader says that there's no difference between the two parties BUT that Kerry/Edwards would be better than Bush/Cheney.

The mental gymnastics here...

...are simply self serving and subjective.

Kerry takes differing positions, as pols are wont to do, about things they will perhaps vote on. Positions as in opinion; "If I were President, I would X..."

Bush, charged with providing for the common defense AS president, sent our armed forces 1/2 way around the world on a mission the prior admin did not feel was warranted. Fine.

Osama in particular is in a completely different state of operations, if not dead, than before. Conditions the president is responsible for dealing with, not offering an opinion on, changed due to decisions he made. Therefore priorities changed.

Monday morning quarterbacks ALWAYS call the right play.
That doesn't mean Kerry would handle X good, bad or indifferent.

With all the intelligence briefings he recieves it would seem that there is very little concern for Osama the man. Obviously his operations are still being attacked around the world.

So, it seems reasonable to say Osama is nowhere near the concern he was before.
