Does anybody have an suggestions for things to do in Key West? My fiance and I will be down there in October. We have a few activities in mind that are a must for us, but are there any must-go-to restaurants or shops? TIA! :buddies:

It's been years, but when I was there we took a seaplane ride over all the old shipwrecks....it's was incredible! Enjoy your trip!

I have been to Key West once and absolutely loved it minus the damage from Hurricane Wilma which blew in a week before. We went to this place one night for dinner...A & B Lobster House excellent EVERYTHING!!! Of course, if you like to party Sloppy Joes has a party everynight as well as Hog's Breath. Most of downtown Key West is a huge party place and really fun to go to. Another must do is Mallory Square at sunset...don't forget your camera! Enjoy your trip!!!

just to add on...found some links with ratings of the top restaurants and attractions. I've heard Sloppy's (see Dyna's post) and MrZ's (see the link) by name, so I guess those are both good

Yes, they got hit with Wilma...anywhere you went people were pulling everything from furniture to appliances out onto the street. They had big plows to get the sand out of the road on one part of the island...the mounds of sand look like our mounds of snow after we get huge snowstorms. Incredible amount of damage, oh, and not just to homes but business as well not to mention the numerous boats all up and down the main highway to and from.

Yes. Take me and my wife. We will show you how to have a damn good time in one of the greatest spots on the planet. From one end of the Keys to the other.

Thanks, forever, to MAlice and FB for showing us Nirvana! :buddies:

Go snorkeling and diving farther up the Keys. Go to the Whale Bar in Tavernier. Lorelies (sp) is somewhere around there. Spend a bunch of time in Key West, rent scooters, pub crawl, people watch, sunset, shop, lather, rinse repeat!

We're gonna try the SNUBA thing so that we don't have to spend a couple hours in training just to go snorkeling for an hour. I've never heard of those places you mentioned, so we'll def have to check them out! Yep, we'll be staying in Key West since that's where most, if not all, the fun will be. Thanks for the suggestions! :yahoo:

I was in Key West about two months ago. You must do a snorkel adventure. I suggest talking with Rod Veal of Sebago. Key West Travel, Snorkeling, Sailing, Eco Tours, Weddings & Key West Web Cam

There are tons of restaurants and bars on Duval Street. Hard Rock was my favorite. I didn't care for Mango's too much.

Do you know where you're staying yet?

We're staying at the Double Tree. I know it's far from downtown, but it was cheaper and still classy.

We stayed here Key West Hotel & Resort - Discover a luxurious, yet affordable Key West, Florida hotel. It was away from downtown and across from the gulf. Awesome place! You'll only be about 10 minutes away driving and most of that is stopping for traffic lights.

You MUST have a cheesesteak from Mr Z's. They are BY FAR the best place ever for them. MR.Z's Cheesesteaks Key West

Fat Tuesday has yummy slushies. Fat Tuesday Key West - Key West, Florida

Irish Kevins was my favorite bar. Key West; Key West Bars - Irish Kevin's Bar, Restaurant, and Entertainment Complex. Live Entertainment Key West. Bars of Key West Just watch out for flashers.

We're planning on getting a rental car too in case we want to stray away from Key West for a day. Which I have a feeling we just might.

I love slushies! Sweet! :) Someone else's recommended Mr Z's too, so I guess we will def be going there for pizza/stromboli's/cheesesteaks. I've had a cheesesteak in Philly before, so I don't know that I'll ever have one that beats that place. I had one some time ago that was close but no cigar. haha. Thanks so much for the suggestions and what to get there. :-D

There's not much else to do in that area. I drove from Miami to Key West. There are shops here & there, along with restaurants, hotels, etc., but nothing that would exite me enough to spend the day. There is PLENTY to do in Key West.

Well, that is good to know. I always wondered if there was much to do elsewhere (like enough to do for a day at one of the other islands). Thank you again!

I'll second what Larry said...renting scooters is the way to go there. But be careful on them, there are tourists driving who don't pay attention.

When we went there, we got out on a 70' catamaran to snorkel the reef, that was a highlight for us.

Enjoy. :yay:

I've have not dived Key West. The Great 'They' say the diving is better up the Keys. I did Molasses Reef and another dive near there.

LOTS of fish to see. The water isn't blue like the caribbean, but still good visibility.
