KFC switching...

All its restaraunts in Canada and North America to non-trans fat oils. The switch will lower fat content in many of their fried foods by up to 40%. Canada will have a canola based oil and the U.S. will use a soy based oil.

I didn't realize such a small switch can make a such a huge change to how much healthier a food can be. I don't believe in legislating business to a great degree and think NYC has been going the wrong direction about it, but its nice to see KFC making this choice. Now that KFC did, a few others are going to be forced into following suit when KFC starts marketing their "healthier" chicken.

...free markets and those evil capitalists. Now the greedy bastards wanna make money off of people's desire to eat healthier.

Have they no shame?

Err... without the government legislating it. I am so used to it being with in all the arguments around here. My bad.

Now.

I won't even dare to mention that some Texas company, all on its own, has probably reinvented what is essentially the Tesla motor for cars. I mean, no pollutant, no oil and no extra maintenance vehicles would be completely anti-capitalist. It could not happen. Imagine the impertinence of someone driving a car that doesn't use gas that outperforms cars that use gas without the government saying it must be so?

...and imagine the temerity of us all having to use words like impertinence. Why, we'll spend all our time driving, smog free, to the library to see if any dictionaries survived the web onslaught.

There is good news. Gas prices are down and people will stop thinking such passe thoughts. The SUVs can drink up a little longer.

Good...I just bought one. Of course it's fuel economy is only slightly worse than the Subaru's...and I can compensate for that by riding the motorcycle.

I can see this being another New Coke..

It's all fine and dandy until people won't eat their chicken because it tastes like crap, then they'll go back to their 'original recipe'..

How many other chains have tried this healthier crap because "it's what the consumer wants" only to find out they didn't really know what the consumer wanted, they only knew what the media was telling them the consumers wanted.

WHen I want Fried Chicken I don't want HEALTHY.. I want friggin FRIED chicken!!

Actually, original fried chicken wasn't made with synthetic trans fat based oils... In fact, I am pretty sure fried chicken was created before we knew how to make trans fat. :neener:

Trans fat is made when manufacturers add hydrogen to vegetable oil--a process called hydrogenation. Hydrogenation increases the shelf life and flavor stability of foods containing these fats.

See? You can still use vegetable oil, just like before.

I am all for it if its a decision based on capitalism/consumers. I don't want the government stepping in babysitting people left and right, though. People can make their own choices. In this case, if someone wants unhealthy trans fat based oils, they can hop on over to another place that doesn't believe using them will effect their bottom line. If government regulates it, then they don't have that choice. Just like if someone doesn't like smoke while they eat, they can choose a place that doesn't allow smoking... oh wait, that choice has already been taken from you smokers. :lmao:

Just heard on Fox 5 news that Starbucks is also jumping on board as well, no more trans-fats in their pastries... :coffee:
