The list goes on and on. :tantrum One of the little gems has managed to completely hose up my Norton software, soooo I'm using Stop-Sign to scan. All this in ONE night!!!! ONE night of a teenager using my machine. :bawl:

This just sucks, I need a pity party. :bawl:

:lmao: I had a computer crash not too long ago thanks to a teenage nephew.

Good luck, fixing it and getting it back to running right. It is a PITA. Now, I'm running XP Professional, but actually prefer 2K professional, but it is better than XP home. Passwords and permissions are your friend.

I 100% agree that kids and computers don't mix! On-line computers, that is. I set both of our kids up with computers of their own while they were youngsters, but didn't connect them to our ISP. I let them have Office 95, Encarta, and a few games (reviewed by me first).

Came home early one afternoon to discover that my son had gotten himself a modem and was using the phone jack in the master bedroom to connect. I confiscated the modem.
It was only when the school started requiring Web searches for certain things that I allowed either of them to use my wife's PC to connect and surf - and only for homework, not anything else.

Always let both of the kids use my computer. Eventually got the daughter her own, but never had any problem picking up sh!t on the internet. Get rid of Internet Explorer and/or Communicator if you have it. Install Mozilla or any program of that type. It won't let the popups occur. I've got the latest version of Mcafee with a firewall. I've picked up crap on the net and had to slick my hard drive several times and start over. Learned my lesson on what to install to keep the garbage out. Run Adware and Spybot regularly. If you set up your firewall you shouldn't have a problem.

Gaming sites are killers! The kids go online looking for Cheat codes and that's all she wrote.

Exactly! My kids play Warcraft. Once a week I have to delete all the little things that hop on my computer while they play.

My kids are still toddlers, so I guess I have to just look forward to all this fun.

I've read that a big way of keeping parasite software off your computer is to turn off ActiveX in Internet Explorer. I changed a bunch of settings in both IE and Firefox to kill third-party cookies and parasites and popups. IE in XP finally has a feature for eliminating popups, but Firefox is still the more security-conscious browser.

Great advice. Vince, by "Mozilla" do you mean the full suite, or just Firefox?

Christy, how do you know all this happened in one night? You sure it just wasn't over a period of time?
It was one night. :bawl: We scan it every couple days with spybot and norton. I neglected to tell the young fella who was using it that when the little gray screen pops up to click "yes" since that's spybots blocker and it informs you that the site contains spyware/malware and do you want to block it from being installed. :bawl:

It's still hosed so if you need a computer when you get home, use the downstairs one.
