Kids killed my home laptop...

Was at the hockey game last night, and the kids attacked the internet playing some online barbie dress-up game or something. Dunno.

Came home from the game and g/f said she was trying to print something for one of the kids projects and it wouldn't print. Found it in the print spooler, was cycling between, spool and delete. Finally got that stopped.

Now my 'puter doesn't know who I am, won't let me delete anything, all of my virus protections are corrupt with missing files, my profile is corrupt, and I can't run external software because it won't let the software create .tmp files.

Is there any other solution at this point other than C:format c: and starting over?

Have you tried to do a system restore (if this is an XP or Vista machine)?

Have another PC? I would pull the hard drive and put into an external enclosure to try to save any data you could prior to wiping it.

Tried the sytem restore. It does nothing. I get to the point where I pick the date that i want it to revert back to, click next, and it does nothing. It's a dead button.

It's XP. And I don't have another PC.

Geek Squad or reload the OS?

MACfee won't even run. Was able to get Spydoctor to run, and it took over 2 hours to finish finding over 600,000 files, more than half of which were Macafee log files.

I have wierd PRF## files saved all over this thing that I can't touch. never saw those before, and they are even on the startup sequence.

Nope. But I haven't had any time since the other day to play with it either. This weekend is shot. So, I'll have to try next week when I get some time.

I gotta do some wire splicing/soldering some time too on the snowboard game that they got for Christmas. Gremlins apparently came in the night, or while the kids were at school and ripped the wires out of it, but were nice enough to put masking tape on the end of the wire "so that nobody got hurt, I guess". I think that is going to stay broke for awhile.

The laptop on the other hand, is just off limits unless I'm right there with them...when I get it up and running again.

In reading Bustem's thread, my problem sounds just like his. Same symptoms, same error messages.

Try looking up WinAntivirus, it sounds like the same thing that took me a week on my own, then three hours with a tech from SpyHunter to fix.
It hides in the printer regs then stops your access to control panel. It is a b***h to get rid of.
At least you don't have a kid like I do. He has personally blown two PCs irreparably and almost a third. He doesn't get anywhere near my laptop.

How's life? Practicing?

LIfe is WAY busy. Helping with homework, after school involvements (play practice, sports, etc), working OT, endless projects at the house

I haven't been practicing much at all. Not much room at this house to do it, but I make room when I get quiet time. If I do it when the kids are around, I get interrupted to show them stuff. That doesn't last long, but the interruption is still bothersome.

Got bad news from the chirpractor this week too that's going to put a cramp in any practicing that I have been doing. Not sure what I'm going to do. Got permanent damage that was missed by my last three chiropractors. I'm in pain constantly now, headache that never goes away, etc. Considering talking to a lawyer. This chiro said I should have done it years ago. Dunno.

Ouch. Sorry to hear of your pain. I look at my abilities and then others my age and think I am fortunate to have been practicing so long. I may not be as flexible as I was but I am a whole lot more flexible than most that have reached my accumulation of years.
