Killer foot cramps..

OMG, does anyone else get these mind numbing.. make ya wanna cry cramps in the top of your foot ? When ya get em its like your toes won't listen to your brain and the tendons seem to be sticking up?

you are afraid to move.. but ya know if maybe you stand on it and walk it will ease up?

If so .... why? what helps? Is it from something missing in your diet?

When you get these cramps in the middle of the night--pinch the flesh just under your nose and over your upper lip (where a mustache would be if you had one) pretty hard (it won't hurt). When you can, eat a banana every other day. Ya need some potassium. L, D-35

Take a potassium supplement, also, but only take one. Check the label, but most of them say just one. Also, try a magnesium supplement. Lots of B-6 will also help.

Bananas or orange juice. I was taking meds for blood pressure and it said take with a banana or orange juice and if I didn't eat the banana or drink OJ, my toes would lock up so bad and it would always seem to hit right around bed time. So I'm up walking the floor trying to work out this cramp. Got to get that potassium.

Could be a lot of things.... For me, I get them in my abdominal area and up my sides. I've had 2 surgery's (hysterectomy and a C Section) first was horizontal, second was lateral. I attribute mine to possibly scar tissue etc. But man, do they incapacitate me for several minutes, if not all day off and on.

My Dr. prescribed Caltrate w/ vitamin b. Two a day. I also started taking a potassium pill (otc) twice a day. I like banana's, but when they get over ripe........:barf::barf:

Drink more water.

That is a definite help! I probably drink 4/5 quarts a day (including the ice I chew on!!) I don't know how much your suppose to drink, but I'm also on Chantex. It all helps in the end, and I love my well water!!!

Bananas...seriously

Only when they are firm. I don't do limp..........

If I were to wake up enough to do that, I'd probably NEVER go back to sleep!!!

It's a potassium (sp?) deficiency. I've had foot cramps so bad that I literally had to duct tape my feet to a flip flop to keep them from curling up. I've had charlie horses at night so bad that I can't move.

Instead of bananas I simply take a potassium supplement. It's worked so far.

Good luck to you !

:yeahthat:

My NP told me to try magnesium for leg and toe cramping and it is a tremendous help.

When do you get them? In the middle of the night? After you've been on your feet for awhile? What's your age? While it very well could be a need for water or potassium, it could also be something more serious, like diabetes or decreased circulation (heart or artery diseases). So if the bananas don't help right away, you might want to give your doctor a call.

Be about it
This happens to me and it's AWFUL!!! It tends to happen more after I exercise. I probably don't drink near as much water as I should in general, but I do eat well and take vitamins daily. My Mom gets them also, and as she's gotten older the cramps have gotten increasingly worse, despite taking supplements, etc...
