Kim's Key Lime Pies & Coffee Shop (Solomons)

Where are my pants?
I was over in Solomons for lunch today, and my coworker suggested that we stop into this little shop called Kim's Key Lime Pies. It's right across the street from Solomon's Pier in one of the little cottages.

This place is SO cute. It's got some of the standard Solomon's "gift shop" type stuff, but there's also a good sampling of boutique items--many of them coffee/tea related--that are absolutely adorable.

The best part, however, is the coffee shop toward the back of the store...Twice the taste of Starbucks for half the price. The owner, Kim, is just as bubbly and charismatic as she can be. She apparently makes and supplies all of the desserts that you find at Solomon's favorites such as CD Café, Stoney's, and Solomon's Pier. This includes (as you might garner from the name), her Key Lime pies...they are to die for. She sells her desserts by the slice or whole; and also offers gourmet sandwiches/wraps, and other light lunch fare.

I highly recommend stopping in for a coffee or dessert if you happen to be on the island. After one visit, Kim's has made it's way onto my weekly lunch rotation.

I am so very blessed
What kind of pie did you have, Club'n? I've never been able to make a realy delicious pie crust, so really admire when others do it well.

Well, if you count all of the desserts that I've had at CD Café (which she makes), I think I've had them all. They are no doubt stored in my lovehandles for later sampling.

The Key Lime pie is what I went with, though. Perfectly smooth and creamy, not overwhelmingly tart, and lovely with a drizzle of raspberry sauce. I'm not sure, but I think she does a graham cracker crust.

Did you notice if they have any cobalt blue or red coffe cup sets?

I didn't like them. At $20 a pie, it's a real wallet killer. The key-lime pies at Woodburn's are much better.

And here you are, spoiling the party, just when I was getting all excited about the Key Lime Pie Store.

Most of the stuff I saw was patterned, but there was a large array of blue hued stuff.

There's a whole section of "cat" stuff (I bought a little kitty espresso cup/saucer set), but for the most part all of the patterns seemed to be whimsical and artsy.

I have an idea, bake several different variations and invite me over to taste test.

Can you teach me, please? Or at least post recipe and directions......

I use the ol' crisco recipe. Key is cold water and not over handling. I'd be happy to teach you. We need to hook up anyway.

Kim's is the place!

What a shame that someone had something not so nice to say about Kim's...well I went to Woodburnes to look at their Key Lime pie (as suggested) and they dont carry any...and the funny thing is that there cakes and pies are just a bit more on the pricing....so I was wondering where she got that info....and unless you have tried her pie...or even tried to make it by scratch like she does...it so worth it!

Since I moved here, I have gotten to know alot of the shops down Solomons Island. Great people. When I go into Kim's I enjoy looking around she has the most beautiful gift items. I like it when I ask her to suggest gifts for my family and friends. She has it all from collectibles, jewelry, coffee, teas, mugs, oh and the lunches and hand dipped ice cream is always a hit with my family and friends.

I have learned that Kims desserts are also sold in most of the restaraunts around here....Lord knows she is always in the back baking....but she is never too busy to say hi and help you out. It is amazing seeing how she went through Cancer and reconstructive surgeries and still wheres a smile. I am happy that she is open once again.

So if you want some southern hospitality, some delicious pies, and remarkable coffee...just come on down to Kim's Key Lime Pies and Gifts.
