I believe public schools only offers pre-k if your kid is "special needs" or there is some sort of financial issues. My youngest is in private Pre-K so I'm not positive but I think that's what I've heard from others trying to get their child in at a public school.
Does anyone know the process of early kindergarten selection? I read the technical stuff on the smcps website, I am just wondering if anyone has been through it. My daughter turns 5 September 18th so she doesn't make the September 1st cut off.
My son's classmate missed the birthday deadline by 5 days. They had her tested and she proved she had mastered the "requirements" for kindergarten. In addition, her Mom wrote a letter stating that she would work with her after school to ensure she would not "fall behind". Her Mom is an Occupational Therapist and said she had the means of preparing her daughter. Kindergarten has come a long way since I was little....apparently it is not just blocks, colors and naps.
