Kindle Fire HD for kids?

I wonder if they will like it after using my ipad?

And it seems like you have to pay for most apps

I tried my husband's Ipad once(I know originally I said I hadn't tried anything else) and I like my kindle fire better, maybe it's just me, but aside from the size, wasn't much different.

I"m thinking something a bit more hardened might be in order......or a good hardcase for the Kindle. Robust is a relative term. Looking around, Fisher Price makes a good case for the FIre, but I can't find a similar case for the HD Fire

Amazon.com: Fisher Price Kid-Tough Apptivity Case for Kindle Fire, Pink (will not fit HD or HDX models): Kindle Store

Given the ages, I think the straight Fire might be a better bet.

What's the difference between the two? I'm not sure that woukd come with the kid unlimited thingy?

I think there is an otterbox case for it, and we would have rules about not taking it outside, etc.

Eek. $70. You can get a warranty (drops, water, etc) for cheaper than that

Thanks, I'll check out the other one too. Why would you prefer it over the other at this age? Just durability?

Just the FP case, really. Kids are tough. I think FP has a slightly better handle on kids than OB. Warranty is cheaper than OB, but more hassle, I think. No legal shenanigans with a case, it just works.

if you will
We got a Kinda Fire HD 8.9" last Christmas, with an Otterbox, essentially for the kids. They were, at the time, 3 and 5. Now 4 and 6, they do enjoy playing with it. And it has survived a few falls thanks to the protective case. The wife "manages" it, so I'm not sure about which games might have cost some money, but I think we've only spent a few dollars on apps that weren't free.

There are a ton of free games on it that are free. I just found out Candy Crush is now available on Kindle Fire free. Bad for me. :killingme I didn't get the otterbox, it usually just sits on my nightstand and occasionally I take it outside on the deck to read by the pool, far enough away that I won't drop it in the water.
