You lucked out. I've seen less than honest contractors mess up the lives of unsuspecting people that hired them. Not hard to do either.

A very close friend of mine, the best man at our wedding was a businessman that owned a grading company… equipment, low boy trailers, single/double axel dump trucks, a bob cat.. etc.. his stuff was stored on farms in Clinton, Piscataway, Upper Marlboro…
He suddenly died.
Within a week most of his equipment “vanished”…
Probably being used by local operators and in neighboring States.
The local police won’t even stop a car with dead tags, how many will stop a road tractor with Maine tags tugging a grader to check for stolen?

Shoddy work, over charged and actually did some things that were borderline illegal. Talked mom into it even though we told her not to.

He did a neighbors trees so I asked for an estimate, talking to him I got a bad feeling whether or not he was insured so I used someone else.
