Kitchen Contractor

My husband and I are about to give up on our kitchen. We've been trying to find a decent contractor to redo our kitchen for a while, with no luck. The four who have actually called us back are trying to charge us 30-40k to remodel our kitchen. We have a humble, single level, 3/2 ranch style house. Not big or fancy; just right for us. Putting a 40k kitchen in it is gross overkill.

All we want is someone to do the measuring/installation of cabinetry and countertops while we will handle the appliances, and tile the floor ourselves. (We just don't have the time for cabinets. Floors are easy and something we know how to do.) Folks, seriously, does that warrant a 40k price tag? We weren't planning on spending more than 15k and that was pushing it. :frown:

Do you have any recommendations?

Any kitchen/cabinet place will do exactly that. I used Beautiful Kitchens and had an acceptable experience with them. Miller Kitchens is another good one. Hell, Lowe's will even do that for you.

Expect to spend Approx $10,000 for cabinets/countertops and installation.
The cabinets are where the $$$ is. Countertop prices don't have the huge variance in price between the choices (Corian, GRanite, etc) that they used to.

Give John Broach at Calvert Woodworks at call. He's a bit eccentric but he does a really nice job. 410-535-4118. His shop in on Adelina Road.

We had Beautiful Kitchens do ours, new cabinets, counter top and sink, and new dishwasher, kept the stove and frig, and I dont believe it was more than $5000.00, but that was 10 years. They did a nice job. My home is a split foyer so its the pretty much the standard looking kitchen for that home.

I'd like to take mine down to the studs, but at the rate I work the dining out bill would kill us. Maybe I could set up a camp kitchen in a spare room.

That's what I did. All you need is toaster oven and a Microwave. I still have the milk cartons that I used to put them on.

I think the only thing that would be inconvenient would be not having the sink/dishwasher for a while. Everything else but the stove plugs in easy enough somewhere else.

I washed dishes in the bathroom sink. Just do it. Tear out is the best part!!!

Beautiful Kitchens did my old split foyer. Cost me way over 10K. Counter tops were corian laminate.

Go to rent a center and rent a portable one. Hook it up in the bathroom.

And my suggestion to housecat would be to go to Stuart Kitchens on 301 in Waldorf. They in the area of all the car dealerships on the southbound side of 301.

They did my huge kitchen in my current home. I measured and designed my layout entirely myself. Took it in to them. Picked out my cabinets (same as the beautiful kitchen ones). Picked out my Corian counter top and the edge I wanted on it. A rep went out to my then under construction home and verified my measurements. Cost me way UNDER 10K. And I have 3 times the cabinets and counter space.

Stuart kitchens is the supplier for Beautiful kitchens, Lowes, and Dean lumber. So they told me. But they all carry the same brands!

My bathrooms are a bit small for that. Also I don't like to unload it now so think of me running up and down stairs with dishes.:lmao:
I'm thinking lots of paper and plastic.

:killingme Crap, that's us to a tee. Took us 5 months to lay down wood floors in two rooms. :hot:

Ok.. so apparently we just got a bad rash of uppity contractors when we should be going to the stores/businesses. Funny...someone told us to find a private contractor. Bad advice apparently.

Thanks guys/gals! Going to find this Beautiful Kitchen place and start with them tomorrow.

What? Why? No!

:lmao:

Because your 'kitchenaid' thread had me  . So even though I still have my mothers, that I just used 2 days ago, I bought the same model as you today. Just have been wanting it and finally made the decision to satisfy my craving. :killingme Final cost will be 349.99

Hence, the dishwasher could have lasted 1 more day before running, but my new toy parts needed washing!

Now get over here and empty it! :wench::wench:

thank you! :nomoney: :starcat:
