Kitty Meds

tired and content....
Is it really necessary for a kitten to have pain medication following getting neutered? My other cat, who was fixed at the Well Pet Clinic, did not have any and didn't seem to be bothered, just out of it and tired. This new kitty is getting fixed at the actual vet and they recommended one. Thoughts?

I dont think its necessary, never had any for mine, but I guess its like you or I going to a doctor. Some will give meds and some feel you wont be needing them and tell you to take aspirin. What vet?

Vets always ask if you would like pain meds. I sometimes think it isn't necessary. I think they get you on guilt...and, yes, I've paid for the extra pain meds.

Just had my cat spayed last week at Well Pet. She was already so heavily medicated after leaving, I can't imagine doping her up with any more. After a little under 2 days of drowsiness and being calm, she was her normal ankle biting self again.

So what I am getting at is that I definitely didn't see the need for it here and honestly have never heard of it before.

As your husband if he would like to have some pain medicine after getting his balls chopped off. Just to see what he says.

Oh hell no. IM so tired of whiny men b!tching about a little snip snip. Get over it. Come see us when they cut you from one side to the next, send you home in a day and a half and then you still have to take care of everyone and everything at home. Crybaby.

I'm tired of whiny women b!tching about a little surgical incision. I was up walking around the hospital four hours after my c-section and went home the next morning with nothing but a bottle of over the counter strength ibuprofen.

:lmao: Not really, I was just trying to think of a more theatrical way to point out that I'm not a guy than simply doing so.

That crap hurt, but it wasn't the excruciating nightmare that everyone threatened it would be. And it does irritate me that many women seem to throw the "you think that hurts, try giving birth!" excuse in the face of a man whenever they complain about pain. Sure, childbirth hurts, c-sections hurt...I'm sure having a scalpel digging around in your groin clipping the pipes does, too, as would castration (which is what happens to cats and dogs during neutering).

Which is why I would happily pay the extra $30 for pain meds for any kitty of mine going under the knife.

All fun aside, anytime someone cuts you open, its gonna hurt. But OMG, men are the worst crybabies. I mean they cant even look at a picture of a vasectomy without crying. Men are so protective of their nuts and heres whats funny, is its one of those body parts you can live without. So attention men, they are not all that important. TIA!

Sometimes vets advise against pain meds. The animals are less likely to injure themselves if they don't get pain meds.

I almost always have boy kittys, but my girly shephard didnt get any meds either. None of my boys got meds.

Just my two cents...I think most animals would rather feel the pain from a nueter/spay then be under the influence of meds. Both my cat and dog hated getting the meds and seemed much happier without them. They understand pain, and most times will adjust their activity, they don't understand the weird sensations when under some types of meds. JMHO.
