Know anything about Stables in Florida?

Hi guys,

At the end of the year, I'm looking into moving to Florida and my trusty steed will be coming along with me. I know some of you are snowbirds and often take your horses between MD/Florida.

I was planning on moving to Tampa and I spent a weekend going to about 20 farms and apart from deciding that they completely sucked or were way overpriced, I picked one. Unfortunately, I will now be looking into moving to an area about 4 hours away and will need to scout out a new farm.

Does anyone know of any farms around Gainesville, more specifically Melrose?

I live in Florida and don't know any in the areas you named, but Ocala, south of Gainesville, is Horse Country, if you have a choice of where to move, check it out, very nice place to live.

Thanks so much, I will check it out!

Ocala is about 45 minutes away and I'm not entirely opposed to traveling for a good barn with reasonable prices. The price difference I'm finding made my jaw drop. 350$/mo now with unlimited turnout, grain, indoor, etc.. and the places I found only offered 1 hour - half day turnouts with an overall sub-par, run down facilities for a minimum of 700$/mo.

I chuckled at one lady who wanted 750$ a month and the farm was nice.. small.. it had a nice indoor wash stall with hot/cold water and she said, "it's for my personal use, you can use the hose outside".

Hah, that sounded kind of bad.. I was just a little offended. I'm thinking, "I'm paying you all this money and can't even use the nice amenities?"

We are spoiled in this area. Board is very cheap compared to a lot of other places. I believe part of the problem in Florida is that hay is super expensive and has to be imported. Good luck with your search.
