Why is this touted as a discount store? Their chit is ridiculously expensive. I am not going to pay $40 for a bra that doesn't come from VS. And I am not going to pay $80 for an ice cream machine when I can get the exact same one at Amazon for $50. Not to mention I was looking for a new summer purse and they wanted $50 for this little tiny nothing of a bag.

I have a question, and this is very serious:

WTH???

I power walk in there when it’s raining during lunch. Dick's won't let me in anymore.

The mark-up is so extreme because of their marketing ploy bombarding you with promotional promises of "15% off of everything in the store today only!" or "three days only!" etc. and there "Kohl's bucks!"

As long as folks are dumb enough to go to Kohl's hoping to "cash in" on the marketing ploys, Kohl's will continue to keep the prices high.

JC Penneys finally got wise to the fact they were actually loosing business by using such ploys which is why they changed their pricing and their marketing ploys to no longer try to entice you in with "bait bargains". If you want to know what JCP has on discount that week, then you have to visit the store and look for the signs.

That right there is why I rarely go into Belk anymore. They'd send this thing in the mail - Save 20% on Everything in the Store!!! Then you read the fine print and it excludes just about everything they stock. Here, here's a Ronco immersion blender - you can have 20% off that.

I'm not a fan of Kohl's. The clothes from their in-house designers are pretty poor quality and the name brand stuff isn't any cheaper than anywhere else. I do like the Food Network brand dishware/serveware and I think that's the only place you can buy it. Other than that I have no use for them.

I got a bunch of bras there from the clearnance rack. Nice Bras. Saved me lots of $.

I buy mini me's shoes there when they are on sale. That's about it.

They have a lot of sales... everything is always on sale. I got $200 worth of kids clothes for $36.00

... with coupons and sales and kohls cash

I hate the new way JC Penneys is marketing. I havent shopped there since theyve changed them. Its now supposedly the "best price everyday" no coupons or sales needed...um so explain to me how the jeans I have been buying my boys for 5 years now on sale @ 2 for $40 are now the "everyday low price of $25 each" :eyebrow:

I think a lot of it is the CARD...would you like to use your Kohls card today? JC Penney card? Sears card? It seems like when I shop at these places I am the only one paying cash or using my atm card.

Thats all I do is shop their clearance rack. Within a month of somethign coming out "new" its on their clearance rack. Like right now I am shopping for school clothes for the kids. You can get a lot of the winter stuff up to 80% off. Which if they can sell it that low on clearance why not just price it at that in the first place. Really makes me feel like those people who bought it at full price got bent over hard!!!

If you plan it right and already need to get those items it can coinside w/ their kohls cash promotion. When if that happens I use that to get items like food processor, blender, etc...

So the pants go on sale for 2 for $40? Then the per item price not on sale is probably more than the $25 they offer now. Make sense? The prices are cheaper than the regular price (no sale) not when they are on sale.

Those flyers JCP sends out are worthless, and probably cost a fortune. They could save all that money by not sending out the flyers.

It's not just Kohl's -- Macy's markup is way worse. That said, I rarely pay full price for anything at Kohl's or anywhere else for that matter. I only buy stuff on sale and use the coupons I am inundated with in my email. I don't have a Kohl's card either (too dangerous) but you can still get some pretty good deals without one.

I get what they are trying to do, but I am not paying $5 for the same jeans because they are trying a new way to compete w/ Kohls. I will just get them at Kohls for 2 for $40 or off the clearance rack

See, I never look at coupons or flyers anymore. I won't get some advertisement and say, "Hey, I need to go shopping." I go shopping because there is something I need or want and now all I'm doing is looking for the best price on it.

JC Penneys also just fired their president because this change resulted in reduced sales.

The Consumerist » JCPenney Giving Up On The Whole “No More Sales” Thing

Remember in January when JCPenney had that revolutionary idea -- touted in a series of not at all grating ads -- of getting rid of "sales," and just lowering everyday prices by around 40%? Apparently, the shoppers of the world didn't get the message and JCP is bringing back the "S word."

While the retail chain did actually lower its prices -- a fact confirmed for the most part by our cohorts at ShopSmart -- it looks like bargain-hunters didn't come running, perhaps because they weren't being reminded of specific discounts via the coupon mailers JCP decried in its ad campaign.

Funny you say that. I had a friend who worked at Kohls and she told me one time that Kohls only had 2 sales a year. One from January to June and the second one from July to December.
