La Tabella in Wildewood

So we decided to give the new La Tabella restaurant a try.

Atmosphere- Very nice, can be little noisy with the bar as it is one open area. Not very intimate but that's Ok.

Food:
Appetizer- Had a Creamy crab dip on bread. Tasted very good but some of the pieces were not quite warm from the kitchen.

Entree- Veal Parmigiana- This was a very good dish. The portions were huge and easily split with significant other. The veal was cut thin and you could cut it with a fork. The sauce was VERY good for the area as was the pasta.

Desert- NY style cheese cake. Lets say they must not have ever been to NY for a giant slice of milky/creamy goodness. They had the very normal thin slice of cheese cake which was good.

Draft beer for $2.00 cant beat that.

Service- it was OK. Friendly waitress, just not quite knowledgeable of the menu. Did not come around very often to "check" on us.

Price: For two of us to eat we spent $42.00 not including the tip. The reality is one entree fed both with leftovers to spare. A pretty good value for the quality/quantity.

Overall well worth the money and will definitely make a second trip.

4 out of 5 stars :yahoo:

They're out to get us
Good review. Some things I may have to try.

My only complaint on La Tabella is their service. They have enough people and not many tables. It's like the waiter falls into a black hole and can't make it back at random points in the evening. Every time I've been there, besides once, it's been slow and I've heard some stories from other people that are even worse (30 minutes to get the check, come on!). They really need to get that fixed because it can be really discouraging, even if the food is great. Hidden location + slow service and you're going to find fewer people going out of their way to eat there.

Some friends and I wanted to try it but Saturday night is full. No more reservations. Not sure if it's the restaurant or The Pax Rats or maybe both.

Pax Rats?

Anyway...they stopped taking reservations? So some people will stop bothering to try the place because it's out of the way and full when they go by, then the ones who have the chance to dine there won't want to go because of the service. Sounds like a double dagger.

How long was the wait?

Sorry, it didn't come out right when I wrote that they stopped taking reservations. I meant that they are completely booked for this Saturday night, Feb. 12. They still take reservations. Apparently The Pax Rats, The Pax Rats are a local group with a good following because when I called to make the reservation for Saturday the lady asked if I was coming that night because of them.

We tried to get in there tonight but they were booked up. Ended up at Ruddy Duck for an outstanding meal of chili and hot wings.

Maybe the restaurant is good, but wrong location. The restaurant in the village should be a plain food place where the residents of the village, retired people, can go for a cheap meal. The residents of the village are shut out because of Wettengel's desire for fancy place to wine and dine his clients. Put a Denny's of equivalent there!

I dunno..that area is very nice..I doubt there are a lot of "poor" folks living in there...besides, La tabella is very inexpensive for what you get..WAY better food and cheaper than olive garden. Retired folks like to have a nice place to go out and eat at too.they don't have to eat at Denny's once they hit 65 :killingme

My mother bought one of the first houses there. Unfortunately she passed away before she could move in. Since I couldn't sell it, no market. I rented it out when I could. My first tenants who were active griped about the restaurant being built as being for the elite, the residents did not get preference on seating, etc. I went to some Association Meetings where one of the many complaints was the restaurant. Too expensive, not welcoming to the residents, etc.

I believe a simple restaurant is what the majority want, especially the residents of the condo portion who want to walk to dinner.

That whole place was mis represented and a debacle. But, so has the new portion of Wildewood. This could warent a thread of its own.

La Tabella closed, new restaurant open

The owner/cook had a hart attack a while back and the restaurant closed. I believe a french man now is trying to make a go of it. The new name is CALIFORNIA'S PLACE . Not much on the menu but its fairly good. A little pricey,to help cover the lease which is astronomical I'm sure. My father lives there in the condo next to it and it's nice to have a restaurant that he can walk to. Open wed-sat 11:30 to 2:00 & 4:30 to 9,9:30. Opening for Sunday brunch soon I hear. So come check it out and help to keep it open. Thanks---Gunnar:buddies:

Cool. I was wondering about the little sign out on the big road sign. I thought maybe it were something to do with the retirement village. I wouldn't have assumed it were a restaurant.

Have you eaten at the old restaurant?

I ate a la Tabella's and liked it. I also liked that it was more of a nice date night kind of thing for us - except that we always ate too much! We always wanted to take advantage of their pizza delivery but didn't get around to it before they closed.

It seemed like the word didn't really get out about the place until right around the time they had to close.

Their pizza was not very good. I had a hard time biting through the crust. The pizza was better the next day when I had the rest of it for breakfast . So don't feel you missed out.
