My husband wants to go to Lake Anna this year. It looks like there are a few campgrounds to choice from but I can't find much info on them. Have you been there and which campground to you recommend. My husband love to fish, but we have kids and I would like some place kid friendly. Maybe some planned camp organized activities/ crafts.

I have never camped there (I prefer Kerr Lake and state campgrounds) but I know people that have stayed here and loved it. More activities for the kiddos than the state parks.

I have a couple of family members who live on the lake there. They say Christopher Run Camp ground or The Lake Anna State Park. Christopher Run probably has more amenities.
Wasn't able to get web links sorry :(

Thanks. What do you know of Kerr Lake? That's his other suggestions. Again no nothing as I have not visited there yet.

Look at Occoneechee State Park, North Bend Park (Corp of Engineers), the is a chain campground near Bracey on Lake Gaston too. We camp at Occoneechee (already have reservations for next month, wine festival in Clarksville). Not a ton for the kids to do but good family time ands some site seeing.

In My Opinion

Kerr lake. bring a boat. between bouys 1 and 3 the depth is around 100ft and in mid summer its the place to troll for striper, try a hopkins lure and troll it at about 25ft, number one is a mile back from the damn. If you want catfish, go to the end of the dead end road past the group area, there is a turn around, about 25 ft out into the water is a rock formation that the big cats hang out around right at sunset.
If you go straight across the lake from the campground there is a small island that is fun to play on.
Camground D was always my favorite but its only for pop ups and tents. Best sites are D206 and D207.
sites in A and B are also on the water however in most places its a short down hill (steep) to get to the water, might not be best for small children,
when you get in the water be careful, its wading depth for a bit out, but it drops off, not a slop mind you, it just drops.
All sections have bath houses withshowers, a short ride from the campground and you can get some of the best BBQ around at S&S BBQ, if you go the other way on (left) on 58 from 4 (bugs island rd) you can go to the state park, and I cant remember the exact turn off but there is a place off of 58 (used to be) that is a dirt road that takes you to a quarry that filled with water, we used to have tire swings to jump in.

there is also a large group campng area that is nice if you have a bunch of people. and, you will notice if its still there a playground as you enter pass the entrance shacks, road splits right after that, to the left is the A section, to the right is b c and d. Not sure if they ever made it but they were planning to create an area E on the other side of the inlet from D.
