Hello,

I am trying to install laminate flooring and I am stuck. I am having trouble placing the spacers between the wall and the new flooring. I hope I can specify the problem clearly. The first problem is that the drywall does not meet the subfloor. It's raised off the subfloor maybe an inch. The spacers I am using are about 1 1/2" tall. I can't install the spacers correctly because they will not hold in place. They just fall out onto the floor when I put pressure on them. So there is no way for me to stabilize the flooring... everytime I add a piece you notice the boars slip away.. It's a mess and I'm stuck... does anyone have any solution?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the photo attached may help clarify what I am tryin to say above.

Hey Drew, I'd try to cut small pieces of wood to put behind your spacers. We just installed a laminate floor in our kitchen about 3 weeks ago. You can probably find a piece of trim or something at Lowe's that you can cut into smaller sections. We used a piece of trim that was about 1.5" X 1/4" and cut it into small pieces. Cut them small enough so you can put them under the drywall and inside your spacers so you can get the flooring up against it.

What is the subfloor made of? If it's wood put a couple of temporary nails in. If concrete, maybe a couple small strips of the laminate? Once you get enough rows in it will pretty much hold its place. You might have to pull it out to adjust it, but it is a "free floating" floor until it's all down. The space is for expansion and you really only need 1/2 inch or so.
