Laptop for College

Son is graduating HS this year and we'd like to gift him a laptop to use at college. Neither my husband or I are very tech savvy so what would you recommend? Just a good one for doing papers and whatnot. TIA

Acer or Toshiba has some decent ones that aren't super expensive.
He will probobly just need a basic laptop with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc).

There's a bunch of low cost laptops out there that clean up very well. My daughter got one for Christmas and the two are inseparable.
