Laptop power source

With a month to go till the road trip I am thinking entertainment for Boy. I was thinking of a portable DVD player with the small screen but I don't want to waste the money for something that will not get used that much. Then it dawned on me that my laptop have a dvd player and I am taking it anyway.

Problem is the battery would only probably last for 1 movie or so. So I am thinking getting a second battery. So for about $150 I would have a second battery that would hardly ever get used. So then I was looking at adapters that you can run your laptop off the cigarette lighter in the raspberry truck.

Anyone have one?

avoid the cheap ones, they crap out rather easily.
A fairly decent one will cost you around $80-$95

I was looking into a Portable Playstation for my son for Christmas, because he said he wanted one. The saleman at Gamestop said it wasn't for kids, because they were so fragile, he suggested a Nintendo DS, so for 140.00, I reserved a "bundle" that includes a Mario Brothers' Cart Racing Game, lots of features, and it has ear phones...so he won't disturb you on a long road trip! I've done many with my son and the GameBoy was a "god send", it's just time for us to upgrade. :yay: The DS will play GameBoy Advanced games, etc.

P.S. I love road trips, where are you going?

I have a DC to AC convertor. I used it for a PS2. How long of a trip are you going on? I missed that thread.

The trip is 11 hours each way. Another battery would only get me 2 movies.

The auto adapter is the way to go. If you leave your battery in your laptop all the time, than you have pretty much depleted it anyways. Much like a cellphone, you need to let the battery totally drain and then recharge it for it to remain in decent working order.

I rarely use the battery but when I have I get about 3 hours. Not enough for 3 or 4 movies.
