We built field expedient versions of the rider when I was in the USAF Reserves.
My units were combat engineer types, with air base ground defense additional duties.

I learned all kind of socially unacceptable things at Norwich and in the Reserve.
Still have a lot of my late 70's - early 80's "survivalist" literature and Military Fieldbooks/Technical Manuals.
For a senior class project for AFROTC, when we were learning about unconventional/urban warfare, blew up a barn for a local farmer who wanted it demolished using improvised munitions. This was under the guidance of an Army ROTC instructor who was a combat vet in Vietnam. He was Special Forces.
BUT, doing stuff like that IS over 40 years in the past.
