Lasik Plus?

hammishsqueak

We're all mad here.
Has anyone on this board ever had Lasik Plus eye surgery? I am 22 years old and in good health, but I have horrible uncorrected vision. I have a mild astigmatism and can only be corrected to 20/25 with glasses/contacts and my uncorrected is 20/400. Has anyone had experience with any offices in the MD/DC/VA region? I have a consultation appointment set up for this Tuesday in Columbia and my mother is fairly certain that if I choose to undergo surgery I will end up blind. :lmao:

You're all F'in Mad...
Why on earth would you go from Calvert to Columbia when Lasik Plus has an office about 2 blocks from Annapolis Mall?

(Call and change your appointment! They tried to schedule me in Alexandria but Annapolis is so much easier from Southern MD than anything involving the beltway!)

I used Lasik Plus in Annapolis, (Dr Goehl who also works in Columbia) in December 2005, and he was fantastic -- so were my results. Highly recommended - if you can afford it, and you have thick corneas, do it!

I used Lasik Plus back in 2001. Dr. Sanjay (Sonny) Goel. I was/am very satisfied.

Tiger Woods had his Lasik done here locally.. I think if it's good enough for him, I'd find the same place.
Tiger used The Eye Center. Dr. Boutrous. They aren't cheap. Guy at work just had it. $5K.

Sorry, I should have clarified! I have an apartment in Laurel that I use while attending school, so I'll be driving from there to Columbia on Tuesday. I'm not quite sure about my corneas (I suppose they'll tell me this on Tuesday?), but I hope to be able to afford it through financing. I'd like to be able to wake up and say, "Gee, what a beautiful morning!" rather than, "Gee, what a beautiful orangish-purple blur".

Yeah, I heard he's completed upwards of 60,000 procedures! I'm willing to pay extra as long as the doctor is experienced. I guess this is one of those things where more $$$ truly = better quality.

I had mine done in Columbia, 12 minutes after my head hit the pillow, Dr. Goel had me read the time on the clock. It was 3:25pm. :yahoo:

Do you happen to know why? My prescription has been fairly stable over the last year (changed a tiny amount, nothing worth getting new glasses over). I tried contacts and hated them.

I have a bad case of astigmatism and near sight. Those are bad combination and the doctor won't do the surgery. He's afraid to mess my eyes up since I'm already deaf, he doesn't want to take a chance to make me blind for rest of my life.

That's awesome! I'm pretty excited about doing this, but I'm going to wait until I graduate in December. If my eyes somehow did get screwed up and I couldn't read, it would interfere greatly with my school work. My interest in Lasik actually stems from my desire to pursue a career in law enforcement. You really can't be chasing a suspect in the middle of the night and then try to stop and find your glasses when they fall of your face. If you don't mind me asking...was your surgery more or less than 5k? I have a mild astigmatism so I'm expecting a little more than average...

Oh, ok...I can definitely understand that. Well, at least it sounds like the doctor was trying to be responsible with your vision.

Yes, he's being responsible. Dr. Goel talked to me on his laptop about everything. You know what, he made the fonts big enough for me to be able to read from his desk.

He's really a nice guy and I would trust him with my eyes. I was disappointed that I couldn't get a lasik surgery. However, he told me that I could get an "implanted lens". Instead of glasses or contact lens, it will be implanted inside of my eyes, so I could see about 20/20 without needing to get glasses or contact lens. He also told me that I can get the implanted lens corrected if I need it to be.

I need to research this before I can do anything with my eyes.

I paid $3K and have lifetime enhancements. I had 1 enhancement on 1 eye.

Hmmm...implanted lens....so if your vision gets worse they'll switch it out at no charge?

I don't know. That's why I said I need to research on this before I schedule for an appointment.

It is new to me. I went in for Lasik exam two weeks ago and I wasn't qualified, so that's when I learned about my other option.

They call me ... Sarcasmo
My wife went to the Wilmer Eye Institute @ Johns Hopkins and :yay::yay: and she would recommend Dr. Walter Stark over anyone else. (Hopkins has a whole wing named after him. Soooo)

I had Lasik on both eyes in 2000 by Lasik Plus (Bethesda); my vision was 20/650 in one eye and 20/450 with slight astigmatism in the other prior to Lasik. Eight years later I am still 20/20 in both eyes.
