I do use paypal and got 2 emails saying "This email is notification that a payment of $47.56 was sent to Anita Castillo for item # xxxxx
Very PayPal looking email.

I freak out and go to my online bank acct. and see no withdrawls. Rush to my paypal acct. and see no activity. Hrmmmmmm....

Go back to the email where I saw a paragraph with a link if I wish to dispute this charge. I click the link. Takes me to some pharmaceutical page or something. :lmao:

Went back to PayPal and found the "report fraud" link and reported them.

I'm thinking if you clicked on ANY link in the e-mail the damage is done..

When viewing the e-mail... go to tools, and find a selection to View Source.. You'll find the originating IP, and you can use onile tools to find where the IP comes from.. Usually Nigeria, or someplace in the EU.. If they are good there will be 5 - 10 IP addresses there, and you may have to check all of them to find the true source.

Ok, I got a new one. This one is REALLY tricky. It REALLY, REALLY looks legit. Paypal has confirmed that it is a spoof, but if I had a paypal account, I might have been fooled.

I think I can get it to show here, but it's too long for one post... <table border="0" cellpadding="12" cellspacing="0" width="600"><tbody><tr><td>
</td></tr></tbody></table>

I can't get it to show the graphics, just trust me it's flashy and looks legit...

Dear users of PayPal services,</center>

Due to upcoming October 2007, and recent changes in PayPal's Service Agreement you need to submit additional details on your PayPal account. Starting from 2007 all PayPal accounts will come with complete detailed information! Identity protection matters. And PayPal works day and night to help keep your identity safe.

<table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr> <td align="center" valign="top" width="40">
</td> <td class="EC_erroremphasis">
</td> </tr></tbody></table>
According the new changes in Service Agreement any unverified account will be deleted from the system in 72 hours after receiving this letter.

and the fine print reads:

This notification was sent to you by PayPal. To modify your notification preferences, log in to your PayPal account, click the Profile sub-tab, then click the Notifications link under Account Information. Changes may take up to 10 days to be reflected in our mailings. PayPal will not sell or rent any of your personally identifiable information to third parties. Notice that like the other spoof email, it says if you don't verify your information, something bad will happen, in this case, they'll close your account if you don't respond in 72 hours, but it also says changes may not be reflected for up to 10 days...so you wait almost 2 weeks before checking into it.

Except for their writing style. In the first paragraph alone there are a few mistakes.
I noticed that too, but I was looking for it. As I said, I don't even have a paypal account, so I should never get email from them....although I did once get on a legitimate paypal email list, probably because I report these spoofs all the time.

The graphics are REALLY impressive, very legit looking. The bottom even has "links" to special "merchant offers" complete with familiar logos of credible companies. Most people will overlook a few little flaws.
