:shocking: Yeah, I saw that a little while ago on CNN, as I was channel surfing. "Gloria" was a pretty good pop song back, uh, oh, heck, otter would know!
Probably before my time.

And to think she was only 47, that's a real shame.

RIP Laura. :flowers:

I also noticed there were were 15 peeks at the thread, but no replies until I did; methinks there are a lot of young people on here who do not remember her.

Well, she was pretty good folks, decent voice and lots of energy. JMHO

I remember her. She did have a great voice. I didn't realize she played the piano though.

Yes, she was a fantastic piano player, extremely talented. But as we all know, piano tunes do not pay the bills, many of the songs that ended up being hits started out as ballads for Branigan. Of course, Elton John, Billy Joel are others I classify in the category of fantastic piano players along with Beethoven, Borge, Liberace.

I think she played the guitar too, but I'm just not 100% on that.

It's a shame about Laura Branigan - such a talent cut short way too soon.

It sort of surprised me you included Victor Borge in your list. Not many people knew just how fantastic a pianist he was and the comedic schtick was just that. I was blessed to go see him in concert at the Kennedy Center and I will never forget him.

My grandmother played the piano and she would encourage me to not only play but watch others play as often as possible.

We ended up selling that piano to pay bills when I was 16 and just recently, I got another piano. I have forgotten a whole lot in nearly 20 years. :ohwell: But, I still remember a lot too.

A beautiful piano ballad will always get me chocked up, and Sandi Patti, gosh how could I forget her, not only can play a beautiful ballad, she adds her fantastic voice in the mix, which always puts a few tears in my eyes.

She has had many of her songs resang by other artist, off the fly "How do I Live Without You" (Michael Bolton) "I'm Your Lady." (Celine Dion) I'm sure there are many others.

The thing is, with modern technology and computers, the music industry can make anyone sound good these days. Many of the older artists, mid 80's and before, didn't have that ability, so they actually HAD talent. Just like many of the old movies. I enjoy them because that was acting, not semi ok acting or really bad acting skimmed over with special effects.
