Lawn Mower Repair

Ah what a wonderful Mothers Day :jameo: Our riding mower broke yesterday afternoon. It's a John Deere, D190l. It's about 2 years old. Does anyone know any repair places that are reputable? Does any places ever offer to come and pick it up? We have a utility trailer big enough, but don't have the time to unload it and it's just bad timing and with having to run this dog to radiation for the next 3 weeks, it couldn't have broke at a more inconvenient time :jameo: We bought it as Lusby Motors? Anyone with any advice?

Call John Deere. I don't know where the closest one is to you in the north end of the county, but we have one in the south in Dameron - (301) 872-5553. Call them and if they can't help, maybe they can tell you who can. They've picked up and repaired ours in the past. Also when we did a trade, they came and picked up our old one and dropped off the new one.

Carroll's in Dameron will pick up and return. Just part of their service. Seems to me it didn't cost anything more. Good mechanics, fair prices.

Thanks, they're my next call. Lusby is 3 weeks out and Gardiners in Waldorf is a month out. What do people do in the mean time?? My grass is crazy

Get a neighbor to help out? We do that all the time where I live. I go on vacation and the neighbor mows my lawn for me without asking (keep the legal comments to yourselves... ty). When winter comes, I help out the neighbors with the snowthrower.

Carrolls is probably very busy right now too. People wait way too long to get their equipment checked out. I'd offer to come over, but I have guests coming tomorrow for a few days. By the time I'm free you'll most likely have a solution. If not, check back with me after Wen.

If it's not broke bad, an easy fix, Carrolls can make a repair on-site. They did on mine.

I don't think it's bad, my fear is my husband trying to "fix" it in the mean time. He's an electrician, NOT a mechanic by a long shot :cds:

Unless he is tearing down and rebuilding the drive train he should be able to handle it. It ain't rocket surgery!

I'm not sure, I just googled the warranty and it's 24 months or 120 hours, I will have to figure out what month we bought it. I know we're good on the hours.
THANKS !

If it is a belt that probably won't be covered. It is pretty darn easy to tell if a belt is the issue and then all you need is the replacement belt and how it weaves through the pulleys and tensioners.

Just bought my John Deere last summer. The only thing I don't like about it are the dayum safety features, i.e. mower shuts down when you go in reverse, engine shuts down when you get off the seat, etc. When the warranty is up, I'll do some bypass surgery on it.

New ones have more safetys than the older models. Mine will stay running if I get up as long as the blades are disengaged. My neighbor's new one shuts down totally if he gets up, even with the blades disengaged.

I can lean to the far side of the seat, like when on a hill, and it will stay running. My neighbor's has two pressure switches in the seat and if he leans to far in the seat it shuts down if either switch senses no weight.

There are many times I mow in reverse, like when doing leaf cleaning. It would be very frustrating to not be able to do that.

I use Yodwers in Mechanicsville on rt 236 towards route 234. He is a Menonite, and very good, you must deliver it though and no phone. He had my riding mower three times last year, berlt keep breaking, then found out a pully was causing it. So for $125.00 it is up and working perfect. I recommend them...
